The group in the reception room turned their heads at the sound.
When they saw Shannon at the door, they were momentarily stunned.
"Shannon!" Hank shot to his feet, and his eyes were full of surprise. Why was Shannon here too?
The manager standing nearby was equally astonished. He recognized both Shannon and Benjamin, with the former in particular being the daughter of the Jensens.
Had Shannon just claimed to be Rosalie?
"Ms. Jensen, is what you're saying true?"
As soon as the words left the manager's mouth, he felt like slapping himself. There was no need for Shannon to lie.
While being an emerald carving expert was impressive, her identity as a Jensen carried enough prestige, not to mention how she was a top scorer in the SATs, the face of the city, and a mystic arts genius.
If Shannon's words were true, Brooklynn must truly be an imposter.
As the manager's expression grew grave, he turned to Brooklynn. A flicker of panic crossed her eyes, but she tried to maintain a composed facade.
"How are her words true just because she says so? Are you siding with her simply because she has a higher status? Where's the evidence?"
Though she didn't know Shannon, she could tell the two were far from ordinary, judging by the latter and Benjamin's demeanor and attire.
"Do we need proof? If you insist, here it is."
Hank sneered and raised the Mini Stone Turtle. He looked at Brooklynn mockingly. "You claim to be Rosalie, but why haven't you realized that this piece I'm holding is one of Rosalie's works?"
This was something he'd spent eight million dollars on, and no one could prove Rosalie's identity better than he could.
At his words, everyone except Shannon turned their attention to the emerald pendant in his hands. The appraiser, in particular, scrutinized it closely and finally noticed something he'd overlooked earlier.
There were Rosalie's signature carving lines and techniques. How had he not noticed this emerald pendant earlier?
Brooklynn was utterly shocked. She hadn't expected the piece she'd been eyeing to be one of Rosalie's creations. It was no wonder Hank had immediately labeled her as a fraud.
The talisman whizzed through the air, and its talismanic glow transformed into chains wrapping around Brooklynn and bound her completely before she could escape. She was dragged back down and thrown in front of Shannon without any chance to resist.
Brooklynn was finally terrified. She looked up at Shannon and stammered a plea for mercy. "M-Ms. Jensen, please don't kill me. I understand I've made a mistake."
Both Shannon and the manager were stunned. They'd assumed her attempt to jump was an act of desperation after being exposed, but now, she was begging Shannon not to kill her.
Hank sensed a sudden ominous feeling.
Sure enough, Shannon asked in a cold voice, "What kind of demon are you?"
Hank fell silent, while the manager and appraiser stared wide-eyed.
Hadn't they been dealing with an imposter? How had this turned into a demon-slaying scene?
"I-I'm not a demon. I'm an emerald broccoli," Brooklynn stammered. She wore a nervous and innocent face.
Hank and the manager didn't know how to react. Their shock was beyond words.
