Vincent was visibly taken aback, instinctively asking, "Aren't you a… ghost?"
"You're a ghost! I'm a damn—"
Before the young boy could finish, Shannon interjected, "He's a demon."
A juvenile demon, at that.
Vincent and his agent were dumbfounded. Thanks to Sixth Sense, they got to meet a ghost for the first time. Now, they even had exclusive access to meeting a demon.
Compared to them, Myla was much calmer. She approached and properly sensed the young boy. "A demon, indeed."
Perhaps due to its age, its supernatural energy was still faint.
It took Vincent a while to snap back to reality. "No, wait… If you're a demon, the Carmine who grew up playing with me was a…"
Demon?
The young boy named Carmine Skydan stared fixedly at Vincent's shocked expression. "Are you looking down on me now because I'm a demon?"
Although he pretended to look fierce, Vincent could detect a hint of dejectedness in his eyes. Immediately, he fixed his countenance and explained, "No way! I was just shocked. I genuinely treated you like my best friend.
"I even tried looking for you when we lost touch…"
Carmine's expression softened slightly at his words, and he muttered, "If it weren't for you, constantly asking why I never grew taller, I would never have had to move!"
The shape of a demon's human form only changed according to its growth stage. Often, they remained fixed in a particular age range for their human form.
For example, since he was still considered a juvenile demon, his human form could only stay at the age of 12 until he matured. This was also why he suddenly moved out and chose to sever all contact with his family.
"If I hadn't kept an eye on you for the past couple of days, you would've been snatched away by that ghost in the middle of the night!"
The truth was, as a juvenile demon with weak powers, he could only fight one or two wandering ghosts but was utterly helpless against the powerful ghost that had set its sights on Vincent.
Demons like him never interfered in human-spirit matters. He even tried reaching out to the Demon Control Agency for help, yet no one had bothered to respond…
Shannon had somewhat guessed the connections when she first caught him. "You're the juvenile monkey demon that requested the DCA's help to exterminate a ghost?"
Carmine turned to her. "You know me?"
"Well, I don't, but I heard about your request," she mused. Besides, the person who assigned her the mission was still kept on her list of muted accounts.
"Tell me what you know."
