Shannon had considered many possibilities, but she'd never imagined the Unmelting Bone to have a little girl around him.
This unexpected twist made the situation significantly more complicated.
"He's shown himself. Do we act now?" asked Benjamin, standing by her side. He'd noticed the Unmelting Bone and Cassidy across the street too.
"It's too crowded. Wait until the parade ends," Shannon replied. The people had gone through a lot of effort to organize this parade, and leaving halfway through would be a waste.
She'd made the necessary preparations to make sure he wouldn't slip away easily.
Shannon and Benjamin's presence was striking in the crowd, not to mention their blatant gaze fixed on the Unmelting Bone.
It didn't take long for Heston to notice them. He recognized Shannon immediately as the mystic master who could summon the fire lightning of the Divine Power.
He could still recall the deadly exorcising energy of her fire lightning and Benjamin standing beside her. Though Heston hadn't encountered Benjamin before, he could sense the latter's undeniable power.
His instinctive reaction was to escape. But just as he was about to act, the pair nonchalantly withdrew their gaze and focused on the parade's ongoing performance.
Heston was utterly confused. They'd clearly seen him.
Though he didn't understand why they weren't attacking, he decided to stay put since they weren't showing any signs of hostility. He wanted to watch the parade a little longer.
Benji Gold and Shanny Gold stuck to his forehead and wrapped their stubby arms around his head. The smaller paper figures below them mimicked their actions and stuck to Heston from head to toe.
Each time Heston tried to peel one off, the mini paper figures would wail pitifully like a child's cry. He was startled and immediately froze in place.
Those weren't ordinary paper figures. Shannon had infused them with baby ghosts borrowed from the underworld.
Though they might appear as harmless paper figures to others, to Heston they were souls of babies clinging to him. As fragile and pitiful as they were, it seemed they could shatter with just a little more force.
He dared not move even the slightest.
