As Luke rolled his sleeves up, ready to witness the potential of the girl who had impressed Benjamin, he suddenly felt a gaze locking onto him from behind, followed by an overwhelming sense of pressure.
Immediately, his initial motive was crushed into pieces. His gaze, locking with Shannon's, soon transformed from provocation to a friendly smile.
"Just kidding. We're all civilized. What are we even fighting for? I hate fighting the most," Luke said, waving in dismissal at Shannon.
She looked at him without letting her guard down, questioning, "Who are you?"
"Luke Bray," he uttered his name confidently, waiting for the girl before her to look surprised and show him respect.
To his surprise, Shannon fixed her stare on him, her face not a hint of emotional fluctuations. Instead, she solemnly asked, "From the Demon Control Agency?"
Her suspicion was justified; just earlier today, she met someone with a powerful energy field, someone she could neither deduce was a man nor a demon. Therefore, when in doubt, everyone would be categorized as a demon.
Shannon's question prompted a look of disdain on Luke, who immediately corrected her, "From the Special Security Agency!"
He pointed at himself, making a solemn introduction. "It's me, Luke Bray, the chief of the Special Security Agency!"
Once the words left his mouth, he realized he wasn't the real chief. Feeling a bit uneasy, he stole a glance at the person behind him.
Upon confirming no objection, he pretended to be calm and turned to Shannon. "Have you never heard of my name before?"
"No," Shannon answered without second thoughts.
Before he could correct her and clarify their relationship, he was met with Benjamin's harsh glare, prompting him to zip his mouth. Frustrated, he turned on his heels and sat on the couch alone.
Yet, Shannon and Benjamin simply stared at him without a word. Feeling uneasy at their persistent stare, he piped up. "What? I can't sit here? Go on with your conversation and pretend I'm not here."
However, the two continued staring at him. At that point, Luke had gotten frustrated, and he rose to his feet, exiting the room while muttering, "What do they have to say that I can't know about?"
It wasn't until he left that Shannon reverted her gaze onto Benjamin, this time with an added note of seriousness and curiosity. "What's your relationship with him?"
In fact, she wanted to ask how Benjamin got acquainted with a figure like Luke. The chief of the Special Security Agency, huh? Just months ago, he had no idea such an agency even existed.
