"Mathias! Come over here and thank Ms. Jensen for saving your life!"
Mathias was speechless. Why would he thank someone who had splashed wine on him? How ridiculous!
He refused to move, but Pedro perceptively read his mind. With a dimmed expression, he roared, "I say, thank Ms. Jensen now! Also, you may not have meant the words you said, but those words still came out of your mouth.
"I want you to apologize to Myla and her parents!"
He emphasized that Mathias hadn't meant his words and pressured him to apologize at the same time. This was to diffuse the Lawsons' anger. Even if they couldn't be in-laws, they had no reason to make enemies of them.
Mathias wasn't a complete fool. Despite his reluctance, he took his father's advice and feigned sincerity while thanking Shannon and apologizing to Colin and Delphina—all while having wine dripping from his hair.
Though still displeased, Colin and Delphina quickly forgave him.
Myla, on the other hand, felt thoroughly relieved. In front of everyone, she deliberately added, "I've actually noticed it earlier. What you said was superficial and spiteful; no person with class would ever say something like this.
"Indeed, you were possessed. If Shannon hadn't driven out that nasty spirit, I would've chained your soul for you."
She purposefully paused and stared at Mathias, continuing, "Didn't my mom and dad tell you? I'm an underworld traveler. My part-time job is soul-chaining for the underworld.
"Of course, when I come across any annoying, self-absorbed pricks who talk with their mouths full, I can also deal with them."
Mathias didn't fully believe in the existence of such a job, but seeing how seriously she spoke about it, a trace of unease began to form in his mind. Thinking he had better count himself unlucky and steer clear of people from the mystic arts world in the future, he decided to leave with his parents.
When they passed by Shannon, she suddenly called out to him. "I ruined your clothes earlier, and as compensation, I'm offering you a word of advice."
She cast him a cold, sidelong glance and gently reminded him, "No living being should speak of spirits unless they wish to summon them."
Mathias was too stunned to speak. His rationality told him that Shannon was pranking him, but he couldn't help the chill running down his spine.
He seemed to have mentioned the spirits a few times when mocking Myla earlier. Could it… really happen?
