Warren wanted Skylar to always be high on alert and use Maya as a constant motivator.
Skylar was fully aware, but that didn't mean he accepted it.
Over the years, Warren poured all his favoritism into Maya and repeatedly used her as a tool to suppress Skylar, wearing out the affection the latter had gradually over time.
This wasn't something that could be undone just by saying that it had all been for a good reason.
"The problem has never been with Maya. It's with Warren," Skylar said coldly.
Shannon listened to his words without offering any comfort. If she were in his place, she wouldn't forgive Warren that easily either.
Celine had grown accustomed to watching Shannon act since participating in the college tournament. As she noticed the latter's silence, she decided not to offer any advice herself.
Mike wasn't too bothered. He fully supported Skylar's decision not to forgive Warren. "Exactly! That's how it should be! He can't decide he wants his son back just anytime!
"Skylar, take my advice. Don't bother dealing with him unless he comes begging for forgiveness."
Though Mike had no father and didn't understand father-son relationships, he did have Merlinus.
If Merlinus ever stole his money to buy candy for some other kid, Mike wouldn't forgive him without double the compensation and a heartfelt apology.
Skylar didn't believe Warren would beg and cry after listening to Mike's enthusiastic encouragement, but he nodded seriously as if considering the suggestion. "Okay."

The team spent another day of rest in Seastone. All this time, the ghouls from Harrisfield Village and the fey ladies who'd sacrificed during the ritual were handled accordingly.
Aside from the deceased ladies, nearly the entirety of the Harrisfield Village population had been wiped out. Janel, the only survivor, disappeared with Gary as soon as the barrier was lifted.
In response to his sudden participation, he smiled and said, "Shannon almost lost her life in the college tournament. As a family member, I have to visit the organizers to express my concern."
He happened to have a new business meeting in Jamborough as well.
…
Meanwhile, in Stonebrook Village, a man in a black coat watched from a distance as mystic masters headed toward Harrisfield Village.
He turned around and left the town as he pulled out his phone. "Alaric's dead. The ghastly plague plan has failed."
After a pause, the man continued, "Fortunately, the Unmelting Bone escaped. We'll be fine as long as we find it before the mystic masters do."
Speaking as he walked, he soon disappeared into the night.
