Ghouls! There were ghouls in the village!
It was no wonder someone had set a deliberate barrier around the village. Had it not been for her reflexes, she would've been attacked by the two ghouls.
How unfortunate; she had wasted a piece of her explosion talisman. Now, it seemed the village was much more troublesome than she had imagined.
Amid her thoughts, she heard another series of hurried steps and snarls approaching her. It was obvious the explosion earlier attracted their attention.
She cursed under her breath, and without hesitation, fled the scene.
…
On the other side, Shannon similarly heard the commotion from the village entrance but didn't turn back. Instead, she quickly followed Gary toward the warehouse in the west village.
Most of the ghouls in the village had already been lured away by Skylar and the others. Even if a few remained, they would be heading toward the entrance after hearing the explosion.
As such, they didn't run into any obstacles during their journey and successfully arrived at the west village. Compared to the street after the entrance, it was much quieter here.
The previously obscured sunlight filtered through here, and the ghouls would avoid getting close to this area.
When Gary arrived, he stood far away and pointed to the front. "That's the warehouse where the evil master is. You should proceed without me."
"Fine. You can go," Shannon said and headed toward the warehouse without glancing at him.
Gazing at her back with narrowed eyes, Gary slowly turned around and ran. Before the crises were resolved, he had to find a safe place for his husband.
It wouldn't be fun to have his companion turn into a ghoul so soon, right?
Shannon had long anticipated it, dodging to the side and tossing the emerald pendant in her hand toward the black smoke. At the same time, she formed a mudra and chanted, "Heavenly signs appear, reveal your form; close all gates, and you shall seal!"
Having already dealt with the troublesome black smoke before, she knew it would split into two if she slashed at it. This time, she had no intention of wasting her time.
With a flick of her wrist, the emerald pendant radiated a bright light, instantly binding the black smoke and drawing it into the pendant. The once crystal-clear emerald quickly turned murky, as if tainted by the smoke's essence.
As soon as it hit the ground, she snatched it up, casually stashing it into her mystic chest.
Within three minutes, Shannon had dispelled the black smoke and entered the warehouse. However, what she saw inside left even her usually composed self shaken to the core.
In the dim and empty warehouse, about 100 women hung in the air. They were on the brink of death, their breaths barely discernible, each of them bearing deep, bloody wounds.
The blood dripped from their deep-cut wounds and to the ground, forming an eerie and horrific array pattern.
