According to the rules of mystic arts, it was forbidden to use spells on ordinary people. However, those who used spirits to harm others were an exception.
Thus, Shannon had no qualms about casting that spell.
Austin's eyes slowly widened at that sight. Was that the legendary truth talisman Shannon used on Sixth Sense?
When Shannon questioned Martha why she instructed a shadow spirit to harass Olivia, Martha, barely holding herself together, blurted a completely different answer.
"That's because I want to become the main female lead. As long as I scare her into quitting, I'll become the main lead!"
Not only Olivia but even Austin was stunned by her answer. How audacious and delusional one had to be to think like her?
She was just an inexperienced actress who had only recently debuted, so landing a supporting female role should have been something she was grateful for. How could she eye the main female role?
The producers never mentioned she could do that!
Austin wasn't concerned about Olivia personally, but his reputation was at stake as a director.
The main female lead was crucial for carrying the show. If something happened to her, the show's reputation would suffer, and he certainly wouldn't allow that.
Despite previously siding with the investors to suppress Olivia, he had never considered replacing her. After all, compared to Martha, a newcomer, Olivia was undeniably an experienced actress.
Olivia's anger was through the roof at that point. She pointed at Martha and snapped, "You really think you can do whatever you want just because you have a backing?"
Olivia could've acquired the same support if she wanted to.
"Why don't you review your own acting before eyeing my spot?" she continued lashing out at Martha, ignoring Skylar's presence.
However, Martha remained reluctant. She looked at Olivia and argued, "You were a supporting female lead in your previous project too. If you can, why can't I?"
Immediately, a chill ran down Olivia's spine. Her face paled when she thought about how the shadow spirit could've eaten her alive if she didn't have the shielding talisman with her.
Skylar stepped in at that moment, shielding her eyes from meeting the shadow spirit. Olivia gazed at him, eyes red, and nodded to ensure she was fine.
On the other side, Martha seemed to be panicking. "I wasn't! I never intended to take her life! I swear I only wanted to scare her! I'm not that evil—trust me!"
Since the truth talisman was on her, she was indeed speaking the truth. Olivia couldn't help but comfort herself, thinking, "At least I don't have a murderer around me. Yay, I guess?"
"You're not that evil, but you're foolish. What makes you think a shadow spirit would take your words without any binding contract?"
Especially shadow spirits, creatures born without emotions; unless bound by a binding contract, there was no way to control them. Without a doubt, there wasn't a spirit contract in Martha's case.
However, she was reluctant to back down.
