Hearing the commotion inside the room, Austin quickly composed himself.

After ensuring his ghost slayer spell had struck the shadow spirit, Skylar lifted his foot, ready to kick down the door.

Austin's face dropped, and he swiftly halted him. "Don't… be impulsive, Mr. Rutherford. If you kick it down, I'll have to pay for it. Besides, it doesn't do anyone good to make this a bigger deal than it is.

"I know the people inside. Let me try and talk to them." He went up to knock on the door.

Olivia, too, heard Martha's scream. Judging from Austin's reaction, she knew he was trying to prepare the people inside the room for what was to come. Thus, she cast him a frustrated glare.

Ignoring her gaze, Austin knocked on the door. However, there was no response from inside the room.

"Why don't I tell the hotel manager to unlock the door? Hold on…" he added.

Olivia couldn't believe him. She was ready to say something when Skylar interjected, "Forget about that."

Then, he pulled out a paper figure from his bag. Since he couldn't resort to aggression, he had an alternative.

With a flick of his fingers, the spiritual energy was directed toward the small paper figure, which immediately stirred to life. Though its movements were stiff, it followed his guidance, drifting from his palm and into the air.

Not long after the paper figure slid through the door, the door handle clicked, opening it from the inside.

Austin and Olivia were startled by his action. Was that a norm in mystic arts?

Skylar couldn't care less about their reaction. He pushed the door open and stepped inside, feeling no sense of unease whatsoever.

After all, the foremost duty of a mystic master was to exorcise spirits. Once the presence of a shadow ghost was confirmed, failing to intervene would've posed an even greater danger to the innocent people inside than intruding.

When the door flung open, Skylar was met with a shocked Martha. She glared at the trio and snapped, "What are you doing here? Who allowed you to barge in like this? I'm going to call the cops!"

The other three persons in the room cocked their heads toward the door in unison. Austin was the first to gasp in awe when they saw the girl. "You're—"

"Shannon!" An emotional Olivia lunged at Shannon, wrapping her in her arms. "Why are you here, Shannon?"

Caught in a tight hug, Shannon took the opportunity to sense Olivia's soul.

"All fine. She may have run into a ghost, but her soul is just fine," she thought.

"I saw your text this morning. I called you, but you didn't pick up. So, here I am."

What Shannon left unsaid was she had spent a small fortune to hire Clement, the ghost father from Silverwood Avenue, to use his ghost car to shorten the traveling time, simply out of worry for Olivia.

Fortunately, she came on this trip. After all, this would be her first encounter with a shadow spirit.
