Shannon ended up taking Caleb to the National Security Agency, but they arrived in separate cars.
Shannon refused to share a ride with Caleb. She reasoned that his stupidity might be contagious.
Harry was aware of the incident at the theme park yesterday and was concerned about her mood.
He tried to strike up a conversation by sharing a piece of news he read. "Ms. Jensen, have you seen the news? Fireworks went off at the theme park last night, and someone claimed to have seen a dragon."
Shannon, who'd been lost in her thoughts, snapped back to attention at the mention of a dragon. "A dragon?" she echoed.
"That's right. Some people claimed to have taken pictures. It sounds real," Harry said enthusiastically as he drove the car.
Shannon pulled out her phone to search. Sure enough, a few social media accounts from Seastone claimed to have witnessed a dragon.
One account uploaded a video that was processed and zoomed in on a blurry and elongated silhouette. It had a silver glow and was claimed to be a dragon.
Just one glance was all Shannon needed to recognize the figure. It was Kai's true form.
She forwarded the image to him and pointed out, "You got caught on camera."
She'd warned him not to revert to his true form and fly around, and now he was caught on camera.
Kai naturally recognized his true form. He couldn't help feeling a little smug seeing the online speculation about him being a dragon. He did have the potential to turn into a dragon.
But as he recalled Shannon's scolding from the night before, he quickly quelled his pride and responded humbly, "I'm sorry…" He promised to camouflage before shifting to his true form.
Shannon had sent the image just to warn him, and she let the matter drop after seeing that he understood.
Harry didn't think much of it until two days later. While driving his parents back from the train station that evening, he noticed a woman by the road flagging him down.
He slowed the car and considered stopping, but the woman waved him off with the excuse that they were not headed in the same direction.
The next day, he stumbled upon a post online where another driver shared his experience of a strange encounter. The post described a woman by the road late at night. The driver picked her up since they were headed in the same direction.
But by morning, he realized he'd driven to a neighboring city through the night, all the while believing he was giving someone a ride home. But when he checked his car, it'd only been the driver himself and his friend.
…
Shannon and Caleb arrived at the Seastone Police Precinct. Triston came to greet them in person.
He paused briefly when he saw Caleb, but he soon recognized the latter.
