Stella wanted to share a bed with Eleanor, so the nodded.
As Eleanor went to grab something from her room, Fiona stood at the door. “Mom, are you going to bed?” she asked with a smile.
Eleanor frowned, “It’s late. Why are you looking for Stella!”
Fiona hesitated, “Um, I’ve got something to tell Stella.”
“Whatever it is, you can talk tomorrow. It’s late, and everyone’s tired.” Eleanor was about to go back to her room when she saw Fionil trying to walk into Stella’s room. She turned and said, “Tonight, I’m with Stella,”
Fiona was stunned for a second. She just said to Stella, “Good night, Stella,” and left.
Stella slept great all night. It was the best sleep she’d had in three years.
When she woke up, Stella looked dat Eleanor and asked, “Grandma, I didn’t wake you up last night, did I?”
Eleanor smiled, “No, I slept great. I remember when you were little, you’d come over and sleep with me.”
When she was a kid, Max would like to sleep alone. Anna got sick a lot. Even when Anna wasn’t sick, she slept with their parents.
Stella was the same age as Anna, but she’d always slept alone since she could remember
Sometimes during the day, when Max was in a good mood, he’d tell Stella ghost stories. This scared her so much that she wouldn’t dare sleep alone at night. She’d go to Max, but he’d just push her away.
Everyt

With no other options,
Thinking of this, Stella hugged Eleanor, Eleanor hugged her back, shiling

Fiona had stuff to say, but it wasn’t the right time. She left quietly.
The door stayed open. Stella could hear the family in the dining room, laughing and happy, like she was never part of the house.

Eleanor didn’t leave tillater the acupuncture session. The house got real quiet, like everyone who had to go already had. Stella decided to head out, too.
Just as she stepped outside, Fiona cut her off. “Stella, are you going out?” Fiona smiled, but it didn’t look real.
