After she wrapped up her conversation, Fiona glanced at her phone and noticed a call from Jackson coming through.
"Hey, big brother," she said, her voice tinged with a hint of melancholy, which Jackson immediately picked up on.
"I tried calling earlier, but your phone was off. Is everything alright?" he asked. Fiona stayed silent for a moment, prompting Jackson to continue, "Where are you at right now?"
"I'm at the Bryant estate," Fiona admitted, realizing it wasn't wise to keep secrets from him. "The matriarch of the Bryant family is seriously ill, and Jasmine asked me to come over. I'm alright, though."
"Okay, stay safe, and call me if anything comes up."
After ending the call, the car pulled up to the hospital entrance. Fiona, cloaked in black with a baseball cap and mask, was completely incognito, leaving no clue about her age or gender.
Jasmine guided Fiona to the posh VIP hospital suite. Outside, a bunch of young folks were laughing and chatting, seemingly unaware of any inappropriateness in their actions.
But as soon as they spotted Jasmine, they swarmed around her. The reason was simple: Jasmine was the old lady’s cherished one, and everyone could see she stood a good chance of inheriting the vast Bryant estate. Yet, as a mere collateral relative, they felt she had no right to it.
To them, she was only destined for a life of insignificance in the small town of Capital, never to reach the elite circles of the Bryant family in the States.
"Oh, look who it is, our dear little Jasmine! Bringing a guest, are we? Like things aren't chaotic enough already."
"Exactly, Jasmine. You should just stick to that backwater Capital. The States isn't your playground."
"I told you to move. If Willens insisted on being a roadblock, he can’t blame me for what happened," Jasmine declared with a steely tone. The other privileged Bryant heirs were left in shock.
As members of the Bryant family, they all had some self-defense training. A few of them rushed at Jasmine, but in mere minutes, she had them all on the ground. Though Jasmine ended up with a few scrapes, she was far better off than those sprawled out on the floor.
"Fiona, let's get inside."
The soundproofing in the room was top-notch, so those inside were oblivious to the chaos outside.
It wasn’t until Jasmine walked in with Fiona that they frowned, noticing the disarrayed group at the door and looking utterly bewildered.
