Alpha's Regret: False Mate, True Luna novel Chapter 13

I looked at the check Ferris handed me, my heart feeling as if an invisible hand was squeezing it tightly, the pain making it almost impossible to breathe.

Seeing that I hadn’t taken it for a while, Ferris frowned slightly and tore off another check, writing a new figure.

Not enough? His tone was indifferent, as if he were merely discussing a business transaction. “What about this?

Check after check was pushed toward me, the amounts growing larger, but my heart grew colder.

Finally, I reached out and took the last check, my fingertips trembling slightly.

Enough.

My voice was soft, yet it seemed to exhaust all my strength.

Ferris.

Not only was this check enough…

Our marriage was enough too.

After speaking, I turned to leave, but before I’d taken two steps, Ferris’s cold voice came from behind-

“Stop.”

I paused but didn’t turn around.

“You took the money, but the matter of that slap isn’t finished.” His tone brooked no argument. “Apologize to Ashley.”

My whole body stiffened as I slowly turned around, my eyes red–rimmed: “What did you say?”

Ferris’s gaze was cold: “I said, apologize.”

“And if I don’t?My voice trembled.

There’s still cooperation between our two families.” Ferris’s tone was calm, yet each word cut like a knife.

My pupils constricted sharply, my heart feeling as if it had been stabbed viciously.

Finally, I slowly lowered my head, my voice hoarse: “…I’m sorry.”

Ashley covered her face: “Luna, are you truly apologizing? Or is this… how you noble werewolves always give such perfunctory apologies?

I’m sorry!” My voice choked, yet each word was clear. Miss Carter, I shouldn’t have struck you. Please forgive me!”

After speaking, I straightened up and looked at Ferris: Is this acceptable now?

Ferris stared at my reddened eyes, and for some reason, his heart felt a slight stab of pain.

He suddenly remembered three years ago when I had a high fever, I had also looked at him with such red eyes.
