“I came here today to apologize.”

Catalina looked down, and her sad expression made Jennifer feel a bit sorry for her.

“I had no idea you went to the hospital that day because you were pregnant. If I had known, I wouldn’t have asked Brayan to go to the VelvetRose launch with me. And that night when I got drunk, it was Ronan who called Brayan. I didn’t think he’d come to pick me up, and it ended up causing you to lose the baby. It’s all my fault.”

She looked guilty as she handed a basket of fruit to Jennifer.

“This is my way of saying I’m sorry. You gotta take it, or I’ll feel terrible.”

Seeing how good Catalina was at pretending, Jennifer couldn’t help but laugh. “I don’t see why I can’t take a cheap fruit basket. It’s not like you’re giving me the necklace around your neck as an apology.”

Catalina looked a bit embarrassed and cleared her throat. “I heard you’re getting out of the hospital today.”

“Yeah.”

“But I think you should stay here a bit longer. You know, when Brayan sees you, he’ll be reminded of the baby you lost, and that will make him sad. He has been in a bad mood these past few days, and I’ve been the one cheering him up. We went on a trip overseas, went fishing on a yacht, watched sunrises and sunsets…”

Seeing Catalina’s dreamy expression, Jennifer didn’t care whether what she was saying was true or exaggerated.

“Yeah, my husband is a nice guy. He cares about his friends, especially his high school pals, and takes them out on his yacht every week. He even gave my best friend a diamond necklace worth 1.6 million dollars!”

She didn’t like lying, but if lying could upset Catalina, she didn’t mind spinning a few more tales.

Catalina clenched her fists. “Good to know you’re being so understanding.”

With that, she turned to leave. But as she reached the door, she turned her head and added, “Oh, Brayan can’t come get you. He’s exhausted and is taking a nap at my place now.”

After saying that, she finally left.

Like a flat balloon, Jennifer felt confused, not angry.

She asked Jamie and found out that Brayan was at the company.

So, Catalina had lied.

Jennifer didn’t trust Catalina’s story. She wanted to get the truth from Brayan herself.

Before leaving the hospital, she went to get some herbal medicine.

Brayan had a stomach issue, and his mom didn’t like modern medicine. So, they always used herbal medicine. Jen- nifer cooked the herbs herself. She knew exactly how much of each ingredient to use and how to control the heat.

The herbal medicine at home was almost gone. If it weren’t for all the recent drama, Jennifer would have restocked it already.
