Outside the ward, Iris Aguilera finished signing all the papers. Her eyes lingered on the blank space meant for her husband, Heriberto Hale, then she looked up and asked the lawyer, “Can I sign on his behalf?”
The lawyer adjusted his glasses, hesitating. “Only with his consent.“.
Iris paused, then pulled out her phone and called Heriberto.
But the one answering wasn’t him. It was his lover, Melanie Montelle.
“Heriberto is in the shower. Want me to tell him something?” she said in a coquettish voice.

Iris felt a sharp pain in her chest, but she forced herself to stay calm. “Tell him to sign the divorce papers.”
She hung up and asked the lawyer to leave.
Then the doctor walked in. “Mrs. Hale, congratulations. You’re carrying fraternal twins. But your pregnancy is frag- ile–we recommend you stay in the hospital for observation.”
Iris stood frozen, stunned.
Ever since they got married, Heriberto had always taken precautions in bed.
Because, according to him, she wasn’t good enough to bear his kids.
And now–right after she signed the divorce papers–she was pregnant?
“Do you want me to get you a VIP room?” the doctor asked gently, seeing her still in shock.
Iris snapped back to reality, not sure what to say. Just then, her phone started buzzing in her bag.
It was Heriberto calling.
“The doctor said you’re pregnant.” His voice was deep and cold. He owned this hospital, so he’d get her test results in no time.
Without waiting for her response, he continued, his tone ruthless, “Tell the doctor to get rid of the babies asap.”
Get rid of the babies…
His words pierced her like a blade, shattering her heart.
The pain radiated through her body, and she couldn’t help shaking all over.
Her eyes got red as she asked, “Why should I listen to you?”
“Do you even have a say in this?” Heriberto snapped before hanging up.

“Don’t I?” she wondered.
She gave a bitter smile and told the doctor to get her a room to stabilize her pregnancy.

There were reasons behind Heriberto’s condescending attitude. One was her love for him; the other, and the most im- portant one, was their different status.
He was the powerful CEO of the Hale Group, whereas she had no one else to back her up.
A year ago, the Aguilera Group went broke. To run away from the huge debts, her parents fled overseas with her brother and sister.
As soon as Iris got settled in the ward and hooked up to the IV for the babies, however, Heriberto burst in like a
storm.
Iris looked at him, calm and composed.
“How dare you defy me?!” He glared at her. He had never been this ticked off before.
Unfazed by his anger, Iris smirked at him. “We’re divorced now. The babies are mine.”
