Joycelyn sprinted out of the area quickly, managing to turn a corner just in time to avoid Ellison. 

She sighed, relieved once she was sure she had lost him. 

Blending in with the crowd of guests, her mask drew attention, but luckily, she had acted quickly, taking two floors down before exiting via a different elevator to avoid being spotted.

In the underground parking lot, she unlocked her car, though she hadn’t driven it herself today–Selene had taken the wheel for her. 

“Joycelyn, you don’t look so good, are you feeling alright?” Selene glanced at her, concerned. 

“I’m fine, just a bit tired from today,” Joycelyn quickly made up an excuse, not wanting to explain the chaos of the night. 

She’d been feeling off due to her period and the shock earlier, now utterly exhausted. 

“Yeah, it’s been a long day, but hey, at least we pulled through, and made some good money!” Selene said cheerfully, still full of energy. 

Joycelyn couldn’t feel the same excitement. 

She checked her phone. Several missed calls from Ellison. Just seeing his name made her stomach churn with anxiety. 

The birthday cake she ordered had already arrived at home, and she had even looked up some online decorations for the event. But now, she worried whether Ellison would be even more upset once he saw them. 

She sighed, staring blankly out the window, wishing she could skip this whole day and jump straight to tomorrow, when everything would hopefully be forgotten. 

Selene, sensing her mood, asked gently, “What’s wrong? You seem down. Did you two fight?” 

“Not really… but I think I pissed him off,” Joycelyn replied quietly, her voice laced with worry. 

Selene immediately frowned. “With someone like you, he should be grateful, not angry. You should call him over here, and we’ll teach him how to be a proper boyfriend.” 

Joycelyn shook her head, her eyes distant as she gazed out the window. Her usual lively spark was gone. 

“It’s Okay, I’ll handle it. I just need to sleep it off after getting drunk tonight. Tomorrow will be a fresh start,” she said, trying to reassure herself. 

“You should still call him. We can grab a late–night snack together,” Selene suggested. 

“I don’t have my charger, my phone’s almost dead,” Joycelyn answered, and to make her point, she reached into her bag and switched off her phone. 

“Sorry, the number you’ve dialed is unavailable…” The cold mechanical voice on the other end made Ellison’s expression darken. 

He thought, ‘She actually turned her phone off?‘ 

Meanwhile, Haddy approached Ellison, asking softly, “I heard Leon mention your sister–in–law is here too, should we switch locations and grab a late–night bite?”

Ellison’s eyes were cold, and he stuffed his phone back into his pocket, barely glancing at Haddy. “No, let’s just head back.” 

“Alright, see you next time,” Haddy said, though he was clearly curious but didn’t press the issue. 

Ellison headed home first, planning to confront Joycelyn. 

Unbeknownst to him, Joycelyn and her coworkers were still enjoying late–night snacks and drinking heavily. She was thoroughly drunk by the time they were ready to leave. 

“Joycelyn, where do you live? Let me take you home,” Selene asked, noticing how red Joycelyn’s face was from the alcohol. 

Joycelyn, leaning on Aurelia’s shoulder, drunkenly giggled. “You’ll never guess where I live…” 

She almost blurted out the address but was interrupted by a loud hiccup. 

Laughing off the moment, she leaned into Aurelia’s arm and drifted off to sleep. 

Selene and the others exchanged looks. “I think something happened between her and her boyfriend, she hasn’t been right since the car ride.” 

Selene, determined, grabbed Joycelyn’s phone. “We need to call your boyfriend and get him to pick you up. And we’ll give him a piece of our minds.” 

She smirked as she powered on the phone. 

“Still got 

half the battery left.” Selene unlocked it using Joycelyn’s fingerprint and scrolled through the contacts. 

She didn’t see any “boyfriend” or “dear” labels but did notice a few missed calls from someone with a very imposing name. 

“Who is this important person? Joycelyn, what did you get yourself into?” Selene muttered, half annoyed. 

Joycelyn mumbled something incoherent in her sleep. 

Selene shrugged and dialed the number, putting the phone on speaker to get the confrontation over with. 

Ellison answered immediately, his voice cold as ice. “You finally turned it on?” 

The chilling tone made Selene’s blood run cold. Her anger evaporated, replaced by an uneasy feeling, as did Aurelia and the others. 

This man’s aura was overpowering, giving off a sense of authority and intimidation–familiar, yet unnerving. 

“You… you’re Joycelyn’s boyfriend?” Selene stuttered, the realization hitting her.
