Chapter 296
Lucas gave a slight nod.
Hunt Enterprises might be something to others, but to him, it was just a small company.
“So what?”
Aurora’s eyes widened, suspicion growing deeper in her chest.
Just who was this man, really?
Faced with his calm response, she suddenly didn’t know what to say.
“Forget it. I’m going to bed.”
She tried to pull her hand free, wanting to slip away and end the conversation.
Lucas‘ eyes widened.
After everything he’d just said, she still wanted to sleep in the guest room?
“Rora, stay with me tonight, will you?”
There was something soft and almost pleading in his eyes–a vulnerability that surfaced only in front of her.
At work, he was known for being cold, decisive, and even ruthless.
But in front of Aurora, he let himself be human. He let his defenses drop.
And with that face–handsome to the point of being unfair–it was almost impossible to resist.
Aurora felt a rush of heat creep up her cheeks. How could someone look like that and say things like this without warning?
Sensing her hesitation, Lucas pressed on. “I mean it, Rora. I need you. Just stay with me tonight.”
“Okay…”
The word slipped out before she could stop it, soft and without conviction.
The moment it left her mouth, she saw the surprise and joy flash in Lucas‘ eyes.
And just like that, it was too late to take it back.
Even now, she was cursing herself inside–why had she lost control and said yes?
She could’ve refused. She should’ve refused.
But with that face and the way he looked at her, she just couldn’t refuse him.

Chapter 296
Lucas could see Aurora trying to retreat.
He stepped in front of her, cutting her off before she could speak. “You already said yes. No backing out.”
He left her no room to argue, no chance to run.
Aurora let out a long sigh and surrendered, returning to the bed with a resigned expression.
Seeing her like that, Lucas‘ eyes lit up with unmistakable amusement.
He didn’t even know when it started, but he’d learned that this particular move worked especially well on her.
So, he kept using it over and over.
Tricks, after all, didn’t have to be new.
As long as they worked, they were worth using.
“I’ll be quick,” Lucas said. “Wait for me, Rora–I’m just going to shower.”

Aurora stayed quiet. The moment she agreed to stay, her mind went still, like someone had flipped a switch. She lay there in
silence, not thinking, not feeling–just floating in the quiet haze of it all.
It wasn’t until Lucas returned and slid into bed beside her that a flicker of awareness returned.
She lay on her side with her back to him, the warmth of his chest pressed gently against her spine.
The steady beat of his heart behind her made the restlessness inside her gradually settle.
She’d expected to feel uncomfortable sharing a bed with him, especially after everything they’d been through.
Even though they’d already crossed that final line, so much had happened since then.
Yet now, leaning against his chest again, she felt a strange sense of calm. More grounded than she had in a long time.
It left her a little confused.
Still, she didn’t say anything. She simply rested quietly in his arms.
For that moment, it was as if something between them had quietly reached a fragile balance.
Sensing her stillness, Lucas wrapped an arm around her, drawing her closer. They held each other tightly, and sleep came
without dreams.
The next morning, as Aurora woke, she still found it hard to believe.
She had prepared herself for the worst–convinced he’d try something, even rehearsed the conversation in her head.
But nothing had happened.
