Chapter 272
When Megan saw that it was Aurora walking in, she couldn’t hold back her excitement anymore.
“Aurora, finally! I missed you like crazy!”
Dressed head–to–toe in her studded outfit, she flung herself toward Aurora like she was about to tackle her with a hug.
Aurora’s face instantly turned pale. “Megan, calm down! What the hell are you doing?”
She gave Megan a look of utter disdain as her friend came barreling at her.
Seeing Aurora’s serious expression, Megan backed off and raised her hands in surrender.
“Alright, alright. No more jokes. Honestly, you really can’t take a little fun, can you?”
She still grumbled under her breath, especially while staring at Aurora’s ever–composed face.
But Aurora didn’t let the moment drag on.
Before Megan got too tipsy, she decided to bring up what she actually came here for.
“Okay, listen. I didn’t just ask you out tonight for drinks.”
She had questions about Lucas.
She hadn’t been able to find anything concrete on her own.
So instead of spinning her wheels, it made more sense to go straight to someone close to him.
Megan looked a little disappointed but smiled anyway. “Alright, go ahead. Ask away.”
Aurora felt a rare sense of relief.
In the end, it was always her best friend who came through.
She got straight to the point, asking everything in one breath. “Megan, what exactly does your cousin’s family do? What kind of company is it?”
As soon as the words left her mouth, the weight in Aurora’s chest seemed to lighten. It felt good to finally say it out loud.
Megan’s expression shifted.
Her mind sobered up a little, her tone suddenly serious as she looked at Aurora’s equally solemn face.
She rubbed her temples, unsure how to respond.
In the end, Megan held back again and again, still unsure how to explain.
“Uh… Aurora, I don’t really know how to tell you
you this.”

Aurora’s thoughts started to spiral. “What do you mean? Why don’t you know how to tell me?”

Megan gave an awkward little laugh. “Lucas and I are only distantly related, and honestly, I don’t know the details. You know how I am I’m actually kind of scared of him, so there’s no way I’d go poking around in his business.”
The way she put it, Aurora found it hard to argue.
“Alright then. I won’t press you on it.”
Relieved, Megan let out a breath. She stood up and came over with a drink in hand.
“Come on. We’re in a bar. Why do you look like you just got dumped on national television? Tonight, we drink until we forget
what sadness even feels like.”
Aurora couldn’t help but smile as that competitive streak in her flared up.
The two of them drank with reckless abandon, letting the music and laughter drown out the noise in their heads.
People around the bar kept sneaking glances their way, curious how much these two gorgeous women could drink.
What was going on? Were they here to party, or trying to drink away their sorrows?
Was it possible even girls who looked like that had their share of heartbreak?
Of course, whatever those onlookers were thinking, neither Aurora nor Megan gave a damn.
Somewhere between the shots and the toasts, Megan, holding onto her last shred of focus, sent a message to her cousin.
“Your wife’s with me. Come pick her up. Now.”
