Chapter 113
Lucas spoke with an air of nonchalance. “In that case, this deal…“He didn’t finish the sentence, but David and Peter weren’t fools.
They caught the meaning instantly.
They turned to Aurora at once. “Miss Walton, we accept all the terms you just mentioned. Did you bring the contract? We’re ready
to sign now.”
“I did.”
Aurora was still a little dazed.
Even with the contract in her hands, it felt somewhat unreal.
The rest of the meal went down much easier for her.
But for David and Peter, under Lucas‘ silent pressure, every bite tasted like ash.
Lucas, on the other hand, looked entirely at ease.
He’d come here tonight for one reason to back Aurora.
She was his wife.
–
He couldn’t bear to treat her harshly himself, so how could he possibly let a few nobodies get away with it.
With that thought, Lucas sent a quick message to Desmond: Look into the Warren and Lowe companies. Create some trouble for
them.
Desmond didn’t quite understand, but he followed orders without question.
They barely had any dealings with those two firms–why was the boss suddenly targeting them?
Then again, trying to guess what was on Lucas‘ mind was a pointless exercise.
As the two men left the restaurant, Aurora couldn’t help but feel how smoothly everything had gone once Lucas had shown up.
It wasn’t until they were walking out together, Lucas‘ arm still around her, that it all began to feel real.
She looked up at him. “How did you know I was here?”
It was a private room–how could Lucas have known where to find her?
Lucas tipped his chin slightly toward the side, signaling her to look.
urora followed his gaze and spotted Hank standing awkwardly by the wall, clearly uneasy.
Her eyes narrowed.

He was the one who’d brought her to this dinner.
And yet, after all this time, he hadn’t stepped back inside even once.
“Well, if it isn’t Mr. Smith,” Aurora said with biting sarcasm.
“I thought you left ages ago. Didn’t expect you were still hanging around.”
“I…”

Hank glanced nervously at Lucas standing beside her, then clenched his jaw and steeled himself. “Miss Walton, I know what you’re thinking, but this wasn’t my idea.”
“What do you mean?”
Aurora narrowed her eyes, a sharp glint flashing through them.
So, someone had been pulling strings behind the scenes.
Hank couldn’t stand the pressure under Lucas‘ cold, menacing stare any longer.
In the end, he gave in completely. “Miss Walton, you know I just follow orders.”
“No way would I ever dare to do something like setting you up to entertain clients… This was all… all…”
Aurora’s eyes turned colder, her voice sharp. “Spit it out.”
Shaking now, Hank finally stammered, “It was… it was Miss Tessa who told me to do it.”
“I’m just an employee… I really didn’t have a choice. Please, Miss Walton, have mercy on me.”
Regret gnawed at him as he spoke.
Why had he ever gone along with Tessa’s reckless plan? He should’ve known better.
Both were heiresses of the Walton family–he couldn’t afford to cross either one.
Now that Aurora had the truth, she didn’t push any further.
There was no point dragging it out.
“You can go.”
She let him off without another word.
She’d had too much to drink tonight–her head was still foggy, and if the conversation dragged on any longer, she’d slip up.
Tomorrow, when she returned to the office, all of this would have to be addressed.
Tessa definitely made an impressive move against her.
