Chapter 10
Aurora hung up abruptly before Megan could finish speaking.
Out of the corner of her eye, she caught a fleeting trace of amusement in Lucas‘ gaze.
100%
Megan’s shocked outburst echoed in her mind, and for some reason, a hint of embarrassment crept in, especially when her gaze, entirely by accident, landed on his collarbone.
He was dangerously tempting.
Her ears burned.
She cleared her throat. “Do you need something?”
“It’s late. I saw you were still up.” Lucas’s lips curved slightly, the usual coolness in his features softening just a touch.
“Chatting with Megan?”
“Yeah, just small talk,” she replied vaguely.
Lucas‘ gaze flicked to the faint redness on her ears, and suddenly, he spoke. “Shouldn’t Megan be calling you her cousin–in–law
now?”
Aurora choked at the thought.
That did make things… a little complicated.
Lucas‘ lips curved into a subtle smirk.
He leaned down, his fingers tilting her chin upward, his voice low and smooth.
“It doesn’t matter if she doesn’t. But, Mrs. Carter… it’s time for bed.”
He inched closer, his warm breath brushing against her skin, sending an odd ticklish sensation through her.
Her eyelashes fluttered.
Then, in that deep, husky voice, rich with temptation, he murmured, “Before that… how about a goodnight kiss?”
Aurora blinked.
Staring at that dangerously handsome face, she found herself unable to say no.
On impulse, she tugged him down and, almost defiantly, pressed a kiss to his Adam’s apple.
“Goodnight.”

Chapter 10
Lucas‘ gaze darkened slightly.
He brushed a strand of her hair between his fingers, his voice gentle. “Goodnight.”
Aurora only let out a breath once he left the room.
She couldn’t deny that she had a good impression of Lucas.
Who wouldn’t like a gorgeous and generous childhood friend?
She had no regrets about the flash marriage.
But suddenly, she found it hard to see Lucas as her actual husband when it came to sex.
A drunken lapse in judgment was one thing.
A real husband–and–wife relationship was something else entirely.
The bedroom door clicked shut behind him.
Seconds later, her phone vibrated with a barrage of messages from Megan.
“AAAAHHHH! What is going on between you and my cousin?!”
“Why is he with you? Who made the first move?!”
“I treated you like my best friend, and you went after my cousin? You’re trying to become my cousin–in–law?! Betrayal!”
Aurora stared at the flood of messages, feeling oddly guilty.
After a brief pause, she finally replied.
“Lukey and I are legally married. Husband and wife, in the eyes of the law.”
She even attached a photo of their marriage certificate.
It took a while before Megan finally snapped out of her shock.
“Well… I guess that works?” Megan finally replied.
“I was planning to introduce you to my cousin anyway, but I didn’t expect you to move this fast. You have to tell me how you managed to get him when we have time.”
Fair enough.
Lucas was known for being unattainable, like the moon hanging high in the sky–beautiful, distant, and impossible to reach. Even Aurora wasn’t sure why he chose her.
It couldn’t really be because of that night… could it?

Chapter 10
Her phone chimed again, snapping her out of her thoughts.
Megan sent another message.
“Now that I think about it, my cousin is actually pretty disciplined–way better than Joseph by a mile. But I did hear that he mi
have liked someone before. Want me to find out for you?”
Lucas liked someone?
Aurora froze.
Then, just as quickly, she let it go.
After all, this marriage was more of a transactional arrangement.
She was once deeply invested in Joseph, so what right did she have to expect Lucas to have no past of his own?
The next morning, Aurora was up early, heading to the office for a project handover with the manager.
She had majored in architectural design in college and was considered a standout in her field.
Even when she was caught up in chasing Joseph, she had never let her skills slip.
Because of that, she adapted quickly to the company’s work.
Even Grace, who was usually indifferent, seemed pleased, her expression softening a little.
“You’ll come with me to Vanguard Group’s business gala in a few days,” Grace said. “Find yourself some suitable evening gowns in the meantime.”
Aurora nodded.
Beside her, Tessa smiled and chimed in, “Aurora, I heard you went and got married to some guy? Not sure if it’s true, but why don’t you bring your husband along too?”
