Don't Try to Escape, My Wife! novel Chapter 1662

Chad Shaffer did not force Mrs. Shaffer to answer, and he knew she would figure it out sooner or later.

The car was quiet for a while and the atmosphere was somewhat depressing.

The driver drove quietly as if he was just a tool man.

The car soon arrived at Morty's house.

Morty's house was brightly lit and he was standing outside the door to greet Chad Shaffer personally. It was obvious that Chad Shaffer had informed him in advance.

Just as the car was about to stop, Mrs. Shaffer suddenly asked in a low voice, "Dad, why do I have to talk to Mr. Morty? Wouldn't we have a better chance of winning if we confessed to Mr. Hill?"

"Mr. Hill is old, and sooner or later the world will be Mr. Morty's. Don't you see? The Shaffer family was the touchstone given to Mr. Morty by Mr. Hill. The quicker and better Mr. Morty solves the problem, the more satisfied Mr. Hill will be, and the higher the national outcry will be when the time comes. Don't you think I don't know what Cody Shaffer has been doing for over a year! He's been canvassing for votes everywhere, and he's eyeing Mr. Hill's seat, isn't he? That bastard! How can he deserve it?"

Chad Shaffer finally spoke up what he was thinking, and Mrs. Shaffer broke out in a cold sweat.

It turned out that Chad Shaffer knew everything, and so did Mr. Hill.

They were just stepping stones for Mr. Morty's rise to the top, which was why they had survived until now.

The funny thing was that Cody Shaffer really thought he was quite capable and kept being proud of himself.

It turned out to be a trap from the start.

Cody Shaffer thought he had set Elvis up to take all the blame, and he could steal everything behind his back to pave his own way. But Mr. Hill knew it all along and was just using it to train Morty.

Sure enough, Morty and Samuel grew close along the way, and Tim and Samuel were related. Now with the Mason family's sailing line, when the time came, as long as Samuel was Morty's man, the Mason family's sailing line was ready to do anything for Morty whenever he needed it, such as smuggling supplies to overseas battlefields without anyone knowing.

Now she was wondering if it was true or not that Jacob was missing on the overseas battlefield.

Mrs. Shaffer thought about it one by one, while her back was wet with cold sweat.

Mr. Hill was the shrewdest one.

So what was she struggling with now?

What was she still hesitating about?

Chad Shaffer was right. Joy was her daughter, and she had doted on her enough for so many years. Since she had done something wrong, she should take responsibility for it herself.

What she owed Cara, she feared she would never have the chance to make up for it in her lifetime. But if she could exchange it for peace for the rest of Cara's life, she had nothing to fear!

Mrs. Shaffer was suddenly enlightened.

When Chad Shaffer saw her expression, he knew she had figured it out.

He pushed the door open and got out of the car, with Mrs. Shaffer following behind him.

Morty quickly stepped forward and greeted Chad Shaffer when he saw him.

"Uncle Shaffer, what's wrong with you coming over here in the middle of the night? My father..."

"It has nothing to do with Mr. Hill. I just wanted to come and see my granddaughter."

Chad Shaffer's words caused Morty to slightly freeze.

"Granddaughter?"

He didn't react for a moment.

Mrs. Shaffer could not control herself and said excitedly, "Cara, we've come to see Cara."

"Oh, all right, but she's not awake yet. I don't know if Blair will let anyone visit her."

"What did Cody Shaffer do when he drew her blood?"

"What else could he have done? Uncle Shaffer, you've been around Mr. Hill for a long time. It would be disrespectful of me if I spoke badly, but do you really not know what your son is doing? He has no intention of keeping Cara alive! He even wanted to turn Cara into a mutant. Once her blood is completely drained, he won't care if she's dead or alive by then."

Hearing what Blair said, Chad Shaffer's face was flushed with fury, while a flame of anger rose from the bottom of Mrs. Shaffer's eyes.

'Cody Shaffer!’

'You're too inhuman!'

'Cara is at least your daughter!’

'You knew she was and you still did this to her. What are my daughter and I to you?'

'Since you're such a bastard, then you can go to hell.'

Mrs. Shaffer's eyes suddenly turned cold.

She hung up Blair's phone, looked at Morty, and said very calmly, ''Mr. Morty, I have something to say to you. Is it all right if I talk to you alone?"

Morty was slightly stunned, but also seemed to have guessed what was going on. He glanced at Chad Shaffer and saw that he did not refuse, so he nodded.

Mrs. Shaffer and Morty went to the study and talked for a long time, while Luna was outside, restless and anxious, but Mrs. Shaffer still did not come out.

It was more than an hour later that Mrs. Shaffer came out of Morty's study. However, it was as if she had been reborn and even her face lit up, which made Luna feel as if she had seen the confident and self-assured young lady of over thirty years ago.

For a moment, Luna froze. Chad Shaffer closed his eyes and dropped his hands in dismay.

He knew that the demise of the Shaffer family had become a foregone conclusion.
