“Six months pregnant? How is that even possible?” Jonathan frowned deeply, his gaze fixed on Teresa lying in bed. He reached out and placed his hand over her stomach.

It felt almost unreal, and his frown only deepened. He asked, “She’s really six months pregnant? Why isn’t her belly showing much at all?”

“That’s because the baby is carried toward the back. It’s nothing to worry about,” the doctor replied.

“Carried toward the back? What does that mean?” Jonathan pressed.

The doctor handed Jonathan the test results and explained the difference between carrying a baby in the front or the back. Usually, when the baby is carried in the back, the bump only becomes obvious later in the pregnancy.

The real kicker was that Jonathan had no clue at all—totally not what one would expect from a husband. The doctor snatched the report back and gave Jonathan a once–over. “Are you seriously her husband?”

“I am,” Jonathan replied with a heavy sigh. “My wife was mad at me and never told me she was pregnant. Let me see the report again. I want to know everything about her.”

He still couldn’t wrap his head around it. Now, he didn’t want to miss a single thing about her.

The doctor rolled his eyes. “What, are your eyes just decorations? You really couldn’t tell your wife was pregnant? And you say she was mad at you. Come on, who can stay mad for six months straight?”

Jonathan pursed his lips, swallowing back what he almost said. After a moment, he sighed, “It’s my fault for not paying enough attention. So, how are my wife and the baby.doing now?”

Seeing the genuine worry in his eyes, the doctor finally handed the report back to him, his tone meaningful. “The baby is safe for now, but you really need to pay more attention. She’s weak and malnourished. Take better care of her.”

Jonathan felt a stab of guilt in his chest. He remembered how Teresa had left his place today without eating, out in the pouring rain. And last night, he hadn’t held back at all. No wonder he’d sensed something was wrong with her.

“I understand,” Jonathan said. After the doctor left, he gazed at Teresa lying on the bed. He’d always thought he’d only ever have one child in this life.

He reached out, gently brushing her pale face, his eyes complicated. His hand slid down from her shoulder and came to rest on her stomach once again.

His brow furrowed as he remembered the day she came to the villa to pick up Michael. ‘Was that the moment she wanted to tell me?‘ he thought.

‘But I threatened her so harshly that she swallowed her words and kept everything bottled up. Six months–she really managed to keep it from me all this time. That’s some serious endurance.‘
