Chapter 536
Sanford said, “Alright, I’ll come with you.” Without a word of protest or explanation, he stepped into the police car. He thought, Just as I said, impulsiveness always comes at a price.‘
The Thomas residence, already quiet and somber, had now descended into utter desolation.
A housekeeper burst in, stumbling, panic written all over her face. She called out, “Ms. Thomas, something terrible happened. Mr. Thomas has been taken into custody.”
Liora exclaimed, “What?” She thought, ‘How could Yorick’s son be so utterly ruthless? He still hadn’t spared Sanford after all.
She demanded, “Get me out of this bed. I have to go to the police station right now.”
The housekeeper pleaded anxiously, “Ms. Thomas, you’re still not fully recovered. Please don’t move around. Mr. Thomas will worry if he finds out you’re up and about while he’s in detention.”
Liora couldn’t just stand by and do nothing. She said, “Sanford’s been detained. Will he be sentenced next? No, I can’t just stand by and watch him go to prison. He’d never survive years behind bars.”
However, as soon as Liora tried to get out of bed, her weakened body gave out, and she collapsed to the floor.
The housekeeper rushed over to help Liora up. She said, “Ms. Thomas, please just rest and wait for the investigation results.”
Liora couldn’t wait another second. Gripping the housekeeper’s hand tightly, she ordered, “Contact Irene for me, right now. I need to see her immediately.”
The housekeeper replied, “Yes, Ms. Thomas.”
For the past two days, Irene had remained in her hospital room, lost in thought as she stared at the test report. She refused to accept that her husband had fathered a child with Liora, the woman she hated most.
Just as Irene was reeling in silent despair, unable to calm her turbulent thoughts, the Thomas family’s housekeeper finally managed to track her down after asking around everywhere.
The housekeeper said, “Ms. Thomas wants to see you. She says it’s urgent, she has something incredibly important to tell you.”
Irene snapped, “Liora and I? We have absolutely nothing left to say to each other.
“Tell her this from me: since she resorted to such scandalous means to have that child, she should have kept him hidden forever, never let her son see the light of day.
“Now that it’s all out, does he think he can waltz into the Lynn family? In his dreams.”
The housekeeper, intimidated by Irene’s fury, trembled as she stuttered, “But Ms. Thomas has something important to tell you!”
“I don’t want to hear it,” Irene snapped, startling the housekeeper into leaving.
Meanwhile, Hayden called Jonathan. He said, “I told you not to go after Sanford. What on earth are you doing? Why am I seeing on the news that Sanford’s been detained?”
Jonathan said, “If I don’t do this, I can’t answer to the board of directors, let alone
face my mother, the wronged legitimate wife.”
“Sanford is still your brother, Jonathan, a member of our Lynn family. Don’t go too far,” Hayden said.
