Just mentioning Teresa’s name was enough for the call to go straight through to Jonathan.

Jonathan was in the middle of a meeting. Even when Teresa reached out to ask him to pick up her friend’s kid from kindergarten, he’d just plan to send a driver. He never had time to go himsell.

On the phone, Tina introduced herself as Teresa’s colleague. “Mr. Lynn, you’re Teresa’s ex–husband: I don’t know if you still care about her, but she might be in danger right now.”

“What happened to her?” Jonathan immediately raised his hand to pause the meeting and stepped out to take the call.

Tina said, “I can tell you where Teresa is, but you have to promise me something first. My brother, Ryan, can’t find a job now. He didn’t know Teresa was your ex–wife at first, and-”

“Horizonlead Group will never hire him again. As for other companies, that’s not my concern,” Jonathan cut her off, his tone sharp and impatient. He was too worried about Teresa to waste time. He rarely interrupted people like this.

But Tina wouldn’t let it go. “Ryan was fired by Horizonlead Group. It’s on his resume-

“He’ll find another job. Now hurry up and tell me what’s going on with Teresa, or I’ll make sure no private company here hires him. If Teresa’s in danger and you keep quiet, you’ll face the consequences.”

That finally made Tina nervous. She told Jonathan where Teresa was, and mentioned that Lysander had been eyeing her and he’d even arranged a private room for her at the school, which seemed really suspicious, like he was up to no good.

Jonathan’s heart was in his throat. “Keep an eye on her. If anything happens, contact me right away. If I can’t get there in time, call the police immediately. If anything happens to her, you won’t get away with it.”

As soon as he hung up, Jonathan ended the meeting on the spot and drove off to find Teresa.

After making sure everyone was settled in, Lysander took the group out to dinner. He popped open a few bottles. If someone couldn’t drink, he wouldn’t push them, except for Teresa. She was the only one he kept insisting on.

Teresa shook her head, refusing the alcohol. Noticing this, Lysander shot a look at the waiter. “Pour her a glass of juice,” he said.

“Yes, sir,” the waiter replied.

A thick, fragrant juice was poured into Teresa’s glass. Lysander raised his own wine and said, “Let me toast you, Teresa. You wouldn’t embarrass me in front of everyone, would you?”

A few teachers nearby started teasing, “Come on, Teresa, just go along with it. The principal’s had a bit too much again.”

Lysander kept his glass raised, refusing to back down.

With no way out, Teresa stood up and took a big sip of juice in place of wine, finishing half the glass. Lysander’s eyes lingered on her, full of desire. The black dress she wore hugged her figure, and he couldn’t help but stare.

Dinner wasn’t finished when Teresa started feeling woozy. She hadn’t had a drop of alcohol, but her ears were ringing and her vision was spinning. She stood up and told the teacher next to her that she wasn’t feeling well and was going to rest.

Tina was quick on the uptake and made her way over to Teresa. “I’m feeling a bit tired too. I’ll go back to the hotel with Teresa and rest,” she said, helping Teresa up. The other teachers didn’t think much of it and kept eating.

“Ms. Thompson, could you help me back to my room?” Teresa mumbled, rubbing her temples, practically leaning her whole weight on Tina.

Tina reassured her, “Don’t worry, Teresa. I’ve already let your ex–husband, Mr. Lynn, know.”
