No sooner had he finished speaking, Beck caught the change in Stella's expression.
The last hint of color drained from her face, only to return in a slight sigh of relief when she recognized him.
"Beck, it's you. You scared the life out of me."
Beck's brow furrowed, realizing that perhaps she wasn't as strong as he had thought. Tonight's events had clearly left a deep mark on her.
She hadn't cried or made a fuss, leading him to believe she had moved past it.
But of course, it was her own brother, Morgan, involved in the mess. How could she, as his sister, simply be okay?
Her apparent resilience was just a facade.
Feeling a sudden softness in his heart, Beck immediately sent a servant to fetch a sleeping pill.
"Take this and try to get some sleep."
"Beck, I knew it. You're really a good guy."
Hearing this, Beck's face darkened. He hardly found the comment flattering and, frustrated, turned and left.
Stella swallowed the pill.
She had always avoided such medication, fearing it would leave her too vulnerable, unaware of who might enter her room while she was deeply asleep.
Taking a deep breath, she leaned back, but soon felt a wave of nausea.
It was a physical reaction to the stress. If she didn't deal with Morgan soon, this shadow might haunt her for life.
Her phone rang, and she quickly went to the bathroom to answer it, eager to hear the familiar voice on the other end ask what she had been up to.
Stella didn't feel like recounting the night's events, instead inquiring,
"Is Bonnie still with Alan?"
"Yes, and Alan seems quite taken with her now."
Stella's gaze dropped, her resolve unwavering.
"No matter what I do, the Sanders family won't let me be. Do you think they're fools? Beck's been holding onto my identity, and it's only a matter of time before they uncover something. Might as well take down Bonnie and Morgan with me. If I'm going down, I'm taking them with me."
No, make that three, including Anna.
Stella's eyes sparkled with mischief at the agreement on the other end.
"Don't worry, you'll get your money."
Stella had always been frugal, with most of her savings going to this man.
But she had no regrets. This man had been a significant help, her most trusted ally, even though they had never met.
And when Anna received the message, she recalled the audacity of the woman who had slapped her. In her time with Bonnie, no one had dared to cross her like that.
She couldn't let it go, instructing her cronies to keep an eye out for that woman, ready to teach her a lesson she wouldn't forget.

The readers' comments on the novel: Dear Ex-wife Marry Me novel (Maja)
Author, would you story about Ryan settling down and another story on Eric regaining his body and memories back from Patrick, and Eric also settling down as I find it so disheartening for him to have gone through what he went through at the research institute, and I'll like for him to get his "golden boy" life back though, not at the detriment of Ian....
When will the author update to finish Beck's story? What about Dylan and Tyler's love lives? Also, I'll like the author to write on Wilma and Elvis ending up together as she was quite persistent in pursuing him. And Shawn's story, Cornelia Sullivan and Omar Casson. Also, a little write-up on Jeff (Ian's assistant) love life, too. Thanks, author for updating....
