Broken Memories, Intertwined Hearts novel Chapter 484

At the dinner table, it was Russel who kept talking, while Silvia remained stoically silent, giving him the cold shoulder.

Russel, noting her icy demeanor, started, “Silvia, I know you still hold resentment towards me, but what I announced today is the truth about your mother and me. What Ines put out there is false. Don’t let it get to you.”

Silvia’s expression was unreadable, as if she was repulsed by speaking with Russel. “The truth of it all is known only to you. I have eyes, and I can discern the truth for myself.”

For many years, Russel had maintained a superior position, rarely had anyone spoken to him in such a manner. Even if he had brought himself down to this level, Silvia refused to bend. Anger surged within him and he slammed down his fork in frustration. “Silvia, stop speaking to me in this tone. Regardless of everything, I am your father. I would never do anything to harm you.”

Silvia took a bite of her steak, realizing that her harsh demeanor would do her no good, especially if it provoked Russel. “You don’t need to explain anything to me. I’m not interested in the affairs of your generation.”

Russel broke into a smile at her words. “Indeed, those are old matters, so let’s not bring it up.”

“I don’t want to stay here. I want to go home.” Silvia voiced her request.

“Silvia, it’s not that I don’t want you to go home. The media has already exposed your address. You can’t return there. They’re waiting for you,” Russel reasoned.

“But I can’t stay here. I’ll go crazy if I do.”

Russel knew this all too well. After a moment of thought, he said, “You can go home, but I will arrange a new place for you. You also need to promise me to stay out of my affairs, not to do anything that would harm me, and not to meet Ethan or Ines, or think about collaborating with them.”

Without a second thought, Silvia agreed. “Don’t worry. I don’t need to collaborate with them anymore. I won’t interfere in any of your affairs.”

“That’s good. The situation I’m in is quite tricky right now. A special investigation team has been assigned, but it’s not an easy task to uncover the whole truth. It will take some time. You need to take care of yourself during this period. I’ll arrange for you to leave the country as soon as possible. That’s the only way you’ll be completely safe.”

“Why? Are you about to fall? Already planning to send me out of the country?” Silvia couldn’t help but poke at him.

At Silvia’s words, Russel’s face darkened, and the two fell silent for a long while.

After what felt like ages, Russel spoke again, “Silvia, no matter what, I will ensure your future is secured. You don’t need to worry. Even if something happens to me, I’ll make sure you’re okay.”

Silvia’s eyes glinted with a mysterious gleam as she softened her tone. “I understand. I can’t return to the hospital, and I don’t want to stay in A City anymore. Going abroad would be a fresh start. I just want to live somewhere peaceful without all these bothersome issues.”

Russel had thought convincing her to leave the country would be a struggle, but she agreed so easily, which really surprised him. He felt relieved. “Okay then. I’ll arrange everything for you within the next two weeks.”

“Whatever.” Silvia was disgusted with the man before her. As long as Russel didn’t speak, she wouldn’t utter a word more than necessary.

“We’ll have to keep an eye on him. For now, we’re all in the same boat. He wouldn’t do anything rash that could harm us. We need to keep our people in line, and avoid any unnecessary trouble,” Russel advised.

Matthew nodded and then remembered something he had overheard. “I heard you speaking to Miss Silvia earlier. You agreed to let her leave. I think it’s a bit risky. She seems to harbor resentment towards you, and I’m afraid she might do something drastic.”

“Her mental state is delicate. If I keep her here, she might lose her sanity. I have to let her go home, but we’ll keep a close watch on her. After all, I am her biological father. I don’t think she would go as far as patricide,” Russel expressed his fear.

Little did he know, it would be his very daughter who would bring about his downfall.

Matthew paused, taken aback. He hadn’t noticed until Russel pointed it out, but now that he’d mentioned it, he could see that Silvia was indeed behaving a bit oddly. “I think you should reconsider her involvement in this job. Psychiatrists, they all have their own mental battles. Being around mentally ill patients all the time can’t be good for her.”

“She’s already assured me she won’t meddle in my affairs anymore,” Russel said. “She’s also stopped working at the hospital.”

“Alright then. If you’re sure about this, I’ll arrange for it as soon as possible,” Matthew replied.

“Yeah, make it quick. Let’s get her back to the city tomorrow. I can see she’s getting cabin fever out here.”
