Broken Memories, Intertwined Hearts novel Chapter 477

Ethan often had to meet with clients, so he always kept a few sets of spare clothes in his office for such occasions. He could use it now.

Ines picked out a casual outfit and placed it outside the door. “Ethan, I’ve placed your clothes outside. Get dressed whenever you’re ready.”

“Got it.”

The sound that came from the bathroom was always more pleasant than usual. Ines, with a smile playing on her lips, walked over to the bookshelf, picked out a magazine, and began to read on the couch.

Ethan seemed to be taking an unusually long time in the shower. He usually only took a few minutes, but today it felt like he’d been in there for over ten minutes. And he didn’t seem to be coming out anytime soon.

Concerned, Ines walked over to the bathroom door and knocked. “Ethan, are you okay? You’ve been in there for a while.”

“I’m fine, Izzy. I’ll be out in a bit.”

Relieved, Ines returned to the couch. It was a while later when Ethan finally emerged. His chin was clean-shaven and he looked refreshed, which was a stark contrast to how he looked earlier.

Ethan walked over and pulled Ines into his arms. “Tell me, do I still smell strange?”

Ines, taken aback, realized that Ethan, a man with a certain degree of cleanliness obsession, must have been offended by her previous comment about his smell. It explained why he’d taken so long in the bathroom. She laughed, teasing him, “Ethan, are you being too sensitive? I made one comment and you spent forever in the shower. I’ve had my share of embarrassing moments, too. You always tease me about how obssessed I am, but I guess we’re not so different.”

Ethan didn’t respond. Ines held his face in her hands, looking deeply into his eyes. “Ethan, we’re married. I love you no matter what.”

“I know. I just didn’t want to ruin my image in your eyes.”

Ines chuckled. “Oh please, you’re Mr. Meyer in my heart, always standing tall and strong. A bit of scruffiness just makes you more manly. And with your handsome face, you could charm any girl. I know you’re confident about that. Ethan, remember, I always mean what I say. I’ve only ever said such things to you.”

Actions often speak louder than words.

Upon reaching home, Ethan hurried into the living room where their two little babies were playing with Ashley on a mat. The siblings, in perfect sync, turned towards the sound of his footsteps. Their eyes sparkled as they opened their mouths and in unison called out, “Dada!”

Ethan froze, unable to believe what he was hearing. His children had learned to call him “dada” in just the three days he’d been away. Ethan felt a mix of emotions – joy, a stronger sense of responsibility, and a profound sense of being moved. He strode forward, bending down to pick up both of his little ones and showering them with kisses. They giggled, snuggling into his shoulders.

Ines just watched, slightly envious. Their children seemed to favor Ethan more, always delighted when he was around. “Ethan, they truly are your kids,” Ashley teased. “I’ve spent the whole day with them, but they’ve never been this happy. You come home and they’re over the moon.”

Ethan just laughed, and then proceeded to coax his children into calling him ‘dada’ again.

The two little ones were exceedingly cooperative, constantly supporting Ethan. Ethan felt an unprecedented satisfaction, which was utterly different from what he received from Ines. The feeling derived from the children was a proud, yet bittersweet sensation, causing his eyes to well up intermittently.

Just entering the room, Lionel couldn’t help but chuckle at the sight before him. “Erica, your grandkids are truly adorable. They’re so young, but they can already call out ‘dada’.”

“That’s all thanks to Ethan’s excellent teaching. However, ‘dada’ is the only word they’ve mastered so far. They’re still learning the rest,” she replied.
