Broken Memories, Intertwined Hearts novel Chapter 461

Upon returning to the Meyer Group, Ines immediately sent someone to the hospital with a cup Silvia had used and a strand of Russel’s hair. She also phoned Phoebe, and asked her to help draft a press release. As she had experienced being attacked by the media, she knew the consequences of it spreading through the Internet. Once the story was out on the Internet, Russel and Silvia would be in for a rude awakening.

Hearing that Ethan had been taken into custody, Phoebe hastily took leave from her job and rushed to the Meyer Group.

In the afternoon, the Meyer Group’s ace lawyer, Lionel, arrived from the police station. Ines stood up immediately. “Mr. Lionel, how’s Ethan doing?”

“Izzy, I’m afraid I couldn’t help much this time. The police are adamant about not granting bail. Ethan might have to spend a few days in there.”

Despite anticipating this outcome, Ines slightly trembled. Phoebe quickly steadied her.

“Thank you for your efforts, Mr. Lionel. Please keep us updated about any changes at the police station. We want Ethan out as soon as possible.”

“Don’t worry. Erica has already briefed me. I know what to do.”

Phoebe stayed with Ines throughout the night at the Meyer Group, carefully plotting their next move. At three in the morning, they received the DNA results confirming Russel and Silvia’s father-daughter relationship.

Everything was as expected. Ines sighed in relief. She turned to Phoebe who was working on the press release. “Phoebe, is the draft ready?”

Phoebe paused her typing, checked the document on her computer screen, and gave a satisfied grin. “You can count on me, Ines. It’s done. Do you want to review it?”

Ines skimmed through Phoebe’s draft. There seemed to be no issues, and it was even more engaging than she had imagined. She gave Phoebe a thumbs up. “You’re indeed a pro, Phoebe. This is impressive work.”

Phoebe rolled her eyes. “Flattery won’t get you anywhere, Ines. My writing services don’t come cheap. We’ll settle accounts once this is over.”

Ines teased, “You’ve got dollar signs in your eyes.”

Phoebe defended herself, “It’s my rightful compensation. I rarely pull all-nighters to write, even at work. How about I skip my gifts for your wedding with Ethan?”

Ines shot Phoebe a look. “You think you can show up at my wedding without a gift?”

Phoebe grinned cheekily. “Why not? As long as we keep it a secret, no one will know.”

Ines chuckled. “Dream on. I’m not letting you off the hook this easily.”

Noticing the forced smile on Ines’ face, Phoebe gave her a reassuring pat on the shoulder. “Relax, Ines. Ethan has everything under control. Don’t worry too much.”

Ines sighed, “I can’t help it. The thought of Ethan in there is unbearable.”

“Just remember to skip my gifts for your wedding, so we’ll call it even.”

“No way, that’s non-negotiable.”

Phoebe teased, “You’re the one who’s money-minded. You know, Ines, holding you like this... it kind of feels like we’re a couple.”

Ines swatted her hand away. “Stop it, Phoebe. I’m not into women. I’m a married woman with two kids.”

“Sounds like you think I’m some kind of spinster or something. Let me tell you, I’ve had a guy chasing after me for over a year now. I just haven’t given him the green light yet. If I wanted to, we could get married tomorrow. So, save your smugness.”

“You’re just playing hard to get.”

“No, I’m playing smart. It’s a woman’s secret weapon when it comes to men. You’ve got to make him work for it. If a guy gets you too easily, he definitely won’t cherish you. You’ve got to make him sweat a little before he puts a ring on it. Then he’ll know how to cherish you.”

“Ethan wouldn’t do that,” Ines blurted out unconsciously.

Phoebe was rendered speechless. This was not the Ines she used to know. She was always talking about Ethan now. “Izzy, your man is a unicorn, a rare breed. You just got lucky, like a blind squirrel finding a nut. I don’t dare to gamble like you did.”
