Ines burst out laughing at Phoebe's words, "What kind of logic is that? Are married women not afraid of trouble? Do married women not need to protect themselves?"
Phoebe felt a bit helpless, thinking that Ines' ideas after marriage were becoming outdated. After some thought, Phoebe said, "If you're not at ease, I can have our family driver come with us, you can also bring your driver. They can protect us, and also drive, so it's killing two birds with one stone. And bring your sweet sister too, I'm kinda liking her now. We can have fun together, the more the merrier, and we can look out for each other."
Seeing Phoebe's enthusiasm, Ines also thought it was a good idea. She always tended to overthink when she was alone, might as well go out and have some fun. Maybe it could help her relax.
"Alright, let's settle on that. I'll tell Emma later, see if she wants to come along. Don't bother going back home, have dinner at my place, and we'll set out after dinner."
Emma had been busy with work recently and hadn't had much time to relax. When Ines suggested it, she readily agreed.
With two male drivers, Silas let them go out without worry, only reminding them to come back early and not stay out too late.
The bar Phoebe picked was decent, but it was still a bar. When they walked in, there was someone singing on stage, and people dancing on the dance floor.
Without hesitation, Phoebe pulled Ines and Emma to the dance floor. Ines always thought she couldn't dance, but she found herself moving to the rhythm in that atmosphere. Emma really couldn't dance. What she had learned at home were formal social dances, she wasn't used to the freestyle dancing in the bar, and couldn't loosen up.
"Emma, no overthinking, just dance freely. There's no right or wrong here. Think of it as exercise. Just enjoy." Because the dance floor was noisy, they had to shout to be heard.
Emma nodded. It wasn't that hard, and she adapted after a while.
After a round of dancing, Ines was sweating profusely. It had been a long time since she did such intense exercise, she was a bit out of breath. Phoebe was also tired, so the three of them left the dance floor, found a spot, and ordered some drinks. By the time they sat down, both Phoebe and Ines were panting. Emma, on the other hand, didn't look tired at all.
"You're impressive, Emma. You don't look tired at all."
"That's because I'm physically fit, unlike you guys who've been spoiled by rich families since childhood." Emma smirked.
"You sound so jealous, as if your dad treats you badly. You've been living in the wealthy family for several years now."
Emma laughed, "Maybe it's because I've had to exercise more for my job recently."
Just as Phoebe was about to say something, she spotted a woman not far away. She couldn't help but tug at Ines' sleeve and said, "Izzy, doesn't that woman look like Silvia?"
Hearing Silvia mention Leila, Ines' nerves tightened. Her intuition told her that things might not be as simple as they seemed, so she began to listen closely to what Silvia was saying. "Leila, I’m sorry, I shouldn't have been jealous of you. Can you come back? I'm so lonely now. I have no friends and no family. Even Ethan is ignoring me. What should I do? I can't go on anymore."
"I wanted to apologize to you, but I didn't die. Is this your punishment for me, making me live a life worse than death?"
Punishment? Ines' heart clenched. Silvia's words were full of guilt. Could it be that Leila's death wasn't a simple asthma attack, but the result of Silvia's actions?
Silvia was speaking intermittently. Ines didn't have time to think too deeply, and she lightly pressed the necklace Ashley had given her, which had a recording function.
"Leila, I really know I made a mistake. I was confused, I watched you have an attack right in front of me and didn't get your medicine. I'm sorry. I thought if you were gone, Ethan would like me. I thought without you in the way, I could be Ethan's wife, and he would treat me the way he treated you.
"Do you know, Leila? I've liked Ethan for a long time. When you were still hesitating about being his girlfriend, I was already in love with him. He's so considerate and gentle, where can I find another guy like that? Every time I saw him taking care of you, it hurt, but I had to pretend it didn't matter. It was awful, I was about to break.
"That day, when I got home and saw you having an asthma attack, I actually had this crazy idea of wanting to replace you as Ethan's girlfriend. I never thought that my impulsive move would lead to such a disaster. I was just...caught off guard, and by the time I snapped back to reality, I had missed the chance to help you. The doc said that if you were brought to the hospital just a bit earlier, you could have been saved. It's all my fault. It's all on me. Leila, if you're gonna blame someone, blame me. But could you maybe try to get Ethan to change his mind? I really messed up, I regret it so much."
