On Sunday morning, Phoebe arrived at the Galeana family's home very early. Ines, unaware of how she had learned the news, looked at her with some surprise. "Phoebe, what brings you here?"
"You're not happy to see me?" Phoebe raised an eyebrow.
Before Ines could reply, Emma laughed and said, "Of course, we're happy to see you. Phoebe, come on in. You are pratically my bigger sister."
Phoebe looked at Emma intently, her eyes squinting slightly. "I heard you're older than Izzy, and I'm a few months younger than her. So I'm younger than you, too. You can't call me big sister." Women did get touchy about age as they grew older.
Emma stuck out her tongue, nonchalantly saying, "I've already got used to calling you that. Let's just keep it that way. I don't want to change."
Phoebe wanted to say something else, but Ines dragged her upstairs. She checked on the babies first, then went into Ines' room.
Looking around at the familiar place, Phoebe felt a wave of nostalgia. Back in the day, she used to come here all the time, and a third of the clothes in Ines' wardrobe were hers. They were either at the Galeana's or the Wagner's, like two peas in a pod.
"Your room hasn't changed much. It's well preserved."
Ines nodded, "After I left, my dad locked it up. He hardly lets anyone in and no one has touched anything inside."
"It sure looks that way." Phoebe nodded.
At that moment, Emma came in with a tray of fruits and some pastries, setting them on the table, "Izzy, Phoebe, have some snacks while you chat."
"Thanks." Phoebe said with a smile.
"No worries, I'll be downstairs. Let me know if you need anything."
Phoebe watched Emma leave and sighed, "Experience really does make a person grow. Emma's personality has changed a lot, I feel like she's matured a bit every time I see her."
"She has changed a lot. She's much more mature than before. Now she's starting from scratch, and it seems she's doing well. By the way, how did you know I was here?"
Phoebe took a bite of watermelon, frowning at Ines, "You're back at the Galeana's, how could I not come see you? You didn't even tell me. I thought someone was spreading rumors about you and Ethan fighting. It's unbelievable."
Ines' smile was tinged with bitterness. Everyone around her thought they would never fight, but they did, and it was pretty fierce. She was used to relying on him, but yesterday she had the urge to run away. "Married couples fight all the time."
After listening, Phoebe clenched her fists in anger. "What on earth does that woman want to do? She's everywhere. She always uses the same trick, using a dead person to make a point. Isn't she afraid her sister might crawl out of hell to strangle her? I think she's out of ideas to ruin your relationship."
Ines nodded slowly. She agreed with Phoebe, "She's obsessed with Ethan, and she wouldn't care about a dead person. That woman studied psychology. What high and mighty tricks can you expect from her? She loves playing mind games. Now that she's seen Ethan has no feelings for her, she doesn't know what to do. She can only use her dead sister. The ex is a sensitive topic for every married woman, and every man will have some special feelings towards their exes. Because it's unattainable, there's always expectation. As long as Ethan feels a little bit guilty or emotional about Leila, she might be able to succeed."
"I really feel sorry for that woman named Leila; it's unfortunate to have such a sister. All the feelings that Ethan had for her will be worn out by this sister. I know she's innocent, but when I think of Silvia, I don't have any good feelings towards her." Phoebe sighed.
Ines laughed, her voice tinged with melancholy, "Phoebe, you're not married yet. I want to warn you, never fall in love with a man who harbors another woman in his heart, especially if that woman is dead. Whether it's deep love or guilt, it doesn't matter. This is a lesson I've learned from personal experience."
Living people were better, because a living person can never compete with a dead one. It was like having a crush on someone. Some people said that as long as you saw each other a few more times, you wouldn't have those feelings. And it was true, all the beautiful fantasies gradually disappeared with each meeting. But the premise was that you can eliminate the barriers of time and space, otherwise it was truly impossible.
Sometimes, she really wished Leila was still alive like Beasley, that way they could openly compete to see who Ethan really cared about. Only then could she completely let go.
Phoebe instantly got what Ines was driving at. Seeing the sadness on Ines' face, she too felt a lump in her throat, "Izzy, I've never been in your shoes, so I might not fully grasp how you're feeling, but I don't necessarily agree with your viewpoint."
"Phoebe, the extent of a woman's pettiness can always outdo your wildest imagination, particularly as feelings deepen, everyone craves for a pure love," Ines murmured.
