"Really? You're not pulling my leg, right?" Erica's biggest worry was that he would be gone for years once he left.
"No kidding, I won't lie to you, I'll call you often when I'm there. If you miss me, you can call me anytime. Being alive is the most important thing, right?"
Tears rolled down Erica's cheeks again, Beasley wiped them away for her. "Mom, stop crying, or you won't look good."
"At my age, how good can I look?"
"Mom, you still look the same as in my childhood memories." Beasley said earnestly.
Ines found the conversation amusing. She thought the two brothers had many similarities, like their serious demeanor when speaking. It always made you feel they were speaking from the heart, not just spinning a tale.
Erica couldn't help but smile, "When did you start becoming such a smooth talker like Ethan?"
"I'm not imitating Ethan, I'm telling the truth."
Erica laughed softly at her son's serious expression, gently tapped his head, "When you get there, be like today. If you meet a girl you like, don't be shy. You gotta speak up. Girls like boys who can speak their minds, you know? Don't hide your feelings. As a man, being rejected is nothing to be ashamed of."
Beasley nodded, "Don't worry, I get it."
What Erica never expected was that her casual remark would stick with her son. When he met the woman he loved, he indeed did not hold back and found his own love there.
Erica calmed down and asked, "When are you leaving?"
"I'm leaving the day after tomorrow."
"So soon?"
"Yes, originally they didn't plan to let me come home, but directly transfer me there. It was grandpa who fought for this opportunity, saying I haven't seen my family for too long."
Erica nodded. Although reluctant, she had to accept it. Trenton wanted to say something, but was silenced by her glare.
After Erica and Beasley left, Trenton and Ines were left alone. Trenton looked a bit awkward, "Sorry Izzy for disturbing your rest. You didn't sleep well last night. Go and rest a bit more."
"She was just angry. Don't take it to heart. She surely doesn't mean it."
Ines remembered Ethan once said that their grandpa taught them how to cook. No wonder Erica was so happy, "Then we all are in luck tonight. It is rare to have something delicious."
"About my two sons, I can't boast about other aspects, but I can assure you that they both are men who love their wives. Whoever marries them will be very lucky. I'm not worried about Ethan now, but Beasley, I still feel a bit uneasy when I think about him."
"Don't overthink. Everything will fall into place."
Erica nodded. Ines pursed her lips, then finally said, "I plan to go back to work at the end of the month. I heard from Herschel a few days ago that Silas hasn't been feeling well lately. Silas is also getting old, so I want to return to work sooner to alleviate some of their pressure."
Erica did the math. Ines just had her babies two months ago at the end of the month. She couldn't help but become serious, "Izzy, don't worry about the babies. We are all here to help. Besides, I also hired a nanny. But you need to consider your own health. Do you feel uncomfortable? Don't harm your body for the sake of work."
Ines felt warm inside, "With your careful care, my body has recovered very well. But I'm a bit worried about Ivy. She's very picky now, and I'm afraid she won't be able to adapt to formula. She might not accept a mix of breast milk and formula either."
Erica gently patted Ines' hand, not at all being the typical mother-in-law who'd oppose her going back to work. On the contrary, she was all for it. "No worries, it's no biggie. You'll get used to it. Coddling her all the time isn't the answer. You can't just sit around doing nothing, only taking care of her at home. It's right for a woman to have her own career. It might just mean a lot of back and forth for you guys."
"We adults can handle it, no sweat. Even if I go back to work, having a CEO means I won't be as busy as before." The Galeana Group hadn't had a CEO since her mother passed away. The top dog was Hunter, essentially doing the work of two people, so naturally, it was pretty hectic. This time, she planned on having Herschel permanently take on the role of CEO for the Galeana Group, not just temporarily.
"You just go back to work without a worry in the world. Leave it all to me."
