Broken Memories, Intertwined Hearts novel Chapter 357

After smearing on the medicine, Ethan had to strip off his shirt, revealing his upper body. Ines worried that he'd catch a cold, cranked up the air conditioning.

Due to the higher temperature in the room, Ines' face turned red in just a short while. However, Ethan kept smiling at her, making her awkward and feel as if she had nowhere to hide.

Ines shot him a glare before heading into the bathroom. Ethan followed her in, out of concern. Ines didn't notice him, and as she turned around, she bumped into his chest, her heart racing. Before she had a chance to say anything, Ethan leaned in for a kiss.

Ines felt her face heat up as if on fire. Trying to keep her shyness at bay, she reciprocated his kiss. During these days, their most intimate act had been kissing.

After a while, Ethan let her go, holding her until her breathing steadied. Once they had both calmed down, Ines pushed Ethan away and stepped out of the bathroom. "It's not too hot right now, and you can't take a shower in your condition, so just wait outside."

Ethan rubbed his head, a bit helpless, and left the bathroom. However, he didn't stray too far, instead, he remained standing right by the door.

Ines knew he was worried, so she didn't close the bathroom door completely. But Ethan’s constant stare made her uncomfortable. So she quickly finished her shower and stepped out.

Ethan had already prepared a towel and the hairdryer. He helped her dry off a bit before using the hairdryer to dry her hair.

Ines checked the time and saw that it was only nine o'clock. She felt it was too early to sleep, so they lay in bed chatting. Because of Ethan's back injury, he had to sleep on his side.

Before they knew it, an hour had passed. Ines started to feel tired, but she was still thinking about Ethan's dinner. So, even while yawning, she forced herself to continue chatting with Ethan.

Ethan had no idea what she was thinking, only finding her behavior somewhat peculiar. "Izzy, if you're tired, go to sleep. We have plenty of time to chat later, there’s no need to rush now."

"It's fine, I'll be okay in a bit." She knew that the Meyer family had a very regular schedule, and generally went to bed before 11 p.m. By that time, she could sneak out to make dinner for Ethan. Even if she got caught, it wouldn't matter. After all, she was now pregnant, she could be a bit unpredictable.

Ethan furrowed his brows, then asked, "Izzy, are you planning on secretly making me something to eat later?"

Ines nodded. "Yeah, just hang in there for a bit, it's almost 11."

Ethan couldn't describe how he felt, only feeling warmth in his heart. She was still thinking about these things at this hour. His wife always managed to touch him with her small actions.

Ethan tightened his arm around her waist slightly, and Ines gave a soft smile. "Mr. Meyer, do you get easily touched?"

Ethan nuzzled her neck a bit before answering, "Yeah."

"You're too easily satisfied."

"Izzy, I appreciate your thoughtfulness, I really do, but I'm not hungry. It's late, you should rest."

"You should eat something even if you're not hungry, okay. I'll go prepare something for you."

Ines gave an embarrassed smile and explained, "There wasn't much food in the fridge."

Trenton nodded. "Quickly take it up to Ethan. You're really working hard, getting up in the middle of the night to cook for him."

Trenton had left home in the morning and knew Phillip's style, so he could guess what had happened in the evening, a typical case of a beating followed by a night of starvation as punishment.

Ines nodded awkwardly. "You should rest, I'll go up."

"Go ahead, be careful." Trenton chuckled.

Just as Ines was about to step out, she noticed a plate of fruit on the table and went back to grab an apple. When Trenton returned to his bedroom, Erica was still awake, reading a book with her glasses on. Seeing the smile on his face, she couldn't help but ask, "I thought there was an accident during the drill, why does it look like it didn't affect your mood at all? What are you smiling at in the middle of the night?"

Hanging his clothes, Trenton answered, "I just ran into Izzy in the living room."

Erica took off her glasses, closed her book, and shoved it aside. She turned to Trenton and asked, "It's late, what's Izzy doing up at this hour?"

"Well, what do you think she's doing? She's cooking for Ethan, of course. She made this vibrant-looking pasta dish. There's barely any pasta, it's all veggies. It looks bright and colorful, not sure about the taste, though. Her cooking skills seem to be just a tad better than yours was back in the day, which, frankly, ain't saying much." Trenton's grin broadened as he recalled the slightly burnt pasta dish his wife first cooked for him.

Erica couldn’t help but laugh. "I knew I wasn't wrong about Izzy. She's such a good kid. Usually, she'd be fast asleep by now. She must have spent the whole night fretting over Ethan's dinner, that's why she's still up."
