Ines was taken aback for a moment, realizing that was why Ethan had held her. It was indeed painful for him to accept this reality, but she didn't think it was unfair. As his wife, she would accompany him through everything.
"Ethan, don't overthink. I don't feel wronged. You always put my safety first. How could I feel wronged?" Ines comforted.
"Izzy." Ethan leaned in closer to her face.
Ines chuckled softly, "That tickles."
They embraced quietly again until Ethan's mood gradually stabilized. Ines began to feel a dull ache in her legs, "Ethan, my legs are aching. Can we sit down and talk instead of standing?"
Upon hearing this, Ethan quickly led Ines to the couch and started to gently massage her legs, "If you're uncomfortable, tell me. I tend to overlook these things sometimes."
Ines was happy to hear Ethan say this, regardless of how others perceived her. She was genuinely happy. He was always an honest person. His words only indicated that he had truly let go of the past, which was beyond her expectations.
In front of Ethan, she didn't want to hide her feelings, so she smiled and said, "I'm fine."
Her happiness made Ethan feel like it was all worth it.
After a while, Ines said, "Ethan, weren't we supposed to go home? It's getting late, we should leave, or we'll miss dinner."
Ethan chuckled, wondering if they would even have dinner tonight.
"We can afford to be a little late. I'll massage your legs a bit more, they seem a bit swollen." Ethan said, focusing on massaging Ines's legs.
Seeing Ethan so focused, Ines leaned back on the couch to rest. Silas sneaked a peek at them before heading home.
On the way to the Meyer Mansion, Ines found it odd that they hadn't received any calls from home asking when they would be back. Their phones had been silent all day.
Upon entering the living room, they didn't see their family preparing dinner. Instead, they saw Erica sitting on the couch, with Phillip looking serious beside her.
It felt like an interrogation scene.
Ines clung to Ethan's arm, looking at him with a puzzled expression. Ethan gently patted her hand, signaling that everything was fine.
Just then, Erica looked up at them and said to a servant, "Take Izzy to the dining room for dinner."
"Okay, ma'am." The servant said.
Ines was surprised. Had everyone already eaten? But why was she the only one being taken to eat, what about Ethan?
"Izzy, you go eat first. I need to discuss some things with mom and grandpa. Once we're done, I'll come find you." Ethan said to Ines.
Ines didn't understand why Ashley was so flustered, but she followed her anyway. At that moment, she saw Phillip's cane hitting Ethan's back mercilessly, one strike after another, with great force. The sound it made caused her to tremble, "He's actually hitting him?"
Seeing this scene, Ashley breathed a sigh of relief, "Ines, it's okay. Things aren't as bad as I thought." At least Phillip hadn't mentioned the family rules, otherwise, she would feel even guiltier.
Ines could feel her heart trembling, but seeing Ethan's straight back, she asked, "This isn't severe?"
"This is a small matter, grandpa didn't even mention the family rules." Ashley said.
"What?" Ines looked at Ashley in confusion, not understanding what rules she was referring to.
Ashley was worried that Ines would be frightened and didn't explain the situation in detail. She only said, "Don't worry, my brother isn't ignorant. Judging by his demeanor, he must have explained everything. Grandpa won't do anything to him, let's continue eating. We can't let the little ones in your belly go hungry."
If Ines hadn't seen this scene, she might have been able to eat normally.
But Ashley couldn't stop Ines. Ines shook off her hand and walked towards the living room, anxiously saying to Phillip, "Phillip, calm down, don't hit him."
Phillip gave Ines a dissatisfied look and said sternly, "Izzy, you go eat. You don't need to interfere in this matter. I will have a good talk with this boy."
Ines grimaced. They had already gone to blows. Where was the room for a nice chat? She said, "Phillip, that thing has nothing to do with Ethan, someone else did it." Ines wasn't sure if Ethan had spilled the beans yet, so for now, she didn't directly drop Silvia's name.
