Broken Memories, Intertwined Hearts novel Chapter 347

"Go dig up some dirt on this number. Let’s see if we can track down who it belongs to." Ethan said.

Lucas nodded and then added, "There's something else you should know. Leila's old SIM card must be in use by someone else. Otherwise, we wouldn't have been able to reach her."

Ethan shot Lucas a glance, a smirk on his face, "I'm not an idiot, you know. No need to repeat the obvious."

With a helpless shrug, Lucas exited the office.

Standing by the window, Ethan silently observed the distant buildings. He had trusted Silvia too much and overlooked many things, leading to a chain of problems. He had spent the entire last night thinking. She couldn’t have possibly had access to his phone. Lucas was the only one who most likely could, but Ethan trusted him completely, otherwise he wouldn’t have delegated such important tasks to him.

Then he recalled what Joy had revealed. She wasn’t a spy. The one who switched the designs was someone else, who was still lurking in the Meyer Group. The question was, were these two the same person? How was Silvia connected to this person?

He didn’t dare to think further. Once he delved too deep, he would begin doubting everything he previously believed, and a more terrifying truth might be waiting for him.

Knowing that Ethan would pick her up after work, Ines left early and went to the Galeana family's house.

Just as she predicted, Ethan showed up. Upon seeing him, Silas chuckled, "Ethan, Izzy already left."

Ethan forced a smile. The girl was really pissed off, not even letting him pick her up from work. He had no choice but to head home alone.

However, upon returning home, he received even more distressing news. Ines didn’t come home. He was left wondering whether she went to see Phoebe or went to the Galeana family's house.

In the meantime, Ines was amusing Jasmine with a game. The little girl was growing prettier every day. At that moment, she was hungrily sucking on her bottle, looking as if she was using all her might.

Seeing her adorable face, Ines couldn't help but laugh.

"Izzy, did you have a fight with Ethan?" Emma asked curiously.

"I just wanted to see Jasmine after work. Don't overthink things." Ines said.

Emma didn’t buy it. She looked at Ines, grinning, "You're lying. You and Ethan are usually inseparable. I've never seen you leave work alone."

"Shut it, will ya?" Ines said.

Emma laughed, "Did he do something to piss you off?"

Ines didn’t reply. Emma’s eyes widened, "Is it even worse than I thought? Did he cheat on you?"

Ines smacked Emma's head, "Stop blabbering! He's not that type of person."

Ines pointed at her belly, "Right now, it's not very convenient."

Emma shook her head and made a strangling gesture, "Izzy, you've really gone soft. I told you to fight back, but I didn’t mean literally. You just need to get someone else to do it."

Ines stared at Emma for a few seconds, not knowing how to feel. She never thought she'd make up with Emma, let alone take advice from her, "You seem quite experienced. Have you done this kind of thing a lot?"

Emma awkwardly laughed, "Let's not bring up the past. I've turned over a new leaf."

"So, what should I do?" Ines asked.

"I think your mother-in-law really likes you and she's pretty powerful. From what I've observed, not just her, the entire Meyer family really likes you. You're carrying twins for them, so you're their prized gem. Now is the best time for you to take advantage of them. You should go and share your troubles with them. I guarantee they'll all be willing to stand up against that woman for you." Emma said.

"Should I really do that?" Ines frowned. That would put the Meyer family in a difficult position.

Seeing Ines’ hesitance, Emma thought she was reluctant to show her weakness to the Meyer family, so she said, "Izzy, you're just like what dad said, you never want to show weakness to others. It's not a big deal to shed a few tears in front of them. Sometimes, playing the victim works wonders."

Ines couldn't help but laugh at Emma's cunning words, "No, it's not that. Silvia's sister owes the Meyer family a favor. If I ask them for help, it would put them in a difficult situation."

Emma didn't have the same empathy as Ines. She had known to be ruthless and didn't let any grudges slide, "That's her sister, not her. You don't have to overthink this. Shouldn’t the Meyer family be grateful to you? They've got to choose between you and her. I'd really like to see whether they value their daughter-in-law and grandson more, or put more weight on the sister of their old benefactor."
