Broken Memories, Intertwined Hearts novel Chapter 323

Joy hastily wiped away her tears and left. Ines looked at Ethan, puzzled, "Ethan, why did you just let her go? Why didn't you use this opportunity to ask more about what happened back then?"

Ethan replied, "Izzy, you wouldn't want any trouble today either, right? Rita and Zander might not be able to handle this. Let's leave it for later. They're legally married now. If we make a fuss now, it's the Payne family that'll be embarrassed. Besides, she chose to go to jail instead of saying anything back then, do you think she'd spill the beans now?"

Ines said, "Yeah, you're right."

Now she finally understood why Joy had been running around with the construction team for the past few years, rarely staying in B City. She was probably afraid of being recognized by people from her past.

Ethan said, "Let's go out. The wedding is about to start."

Ines came to the wedding in good spirits, but she didn't expect to learn such a thing. When she left, she was far from cheerful. Their seats were specially prepared, close to the stage. After the ceremony, their family would sit at one table.

Since the wedding hadn't started yet, there were only the two of them at the table.

Ethan gently tapped Ines' hand and whispered, "Izzy, cheer up, don't let Rita and Zander notice."

Ines smiled faintly and looked up. Rita and Zander were looking at them, and Jeffery was talking to Joy. He saw Jeffery lift his hand to straighten Joy's hair.

Ines looked at the photo collection of Joy and Jeffery in the video, with captions describing their meeting and falling in love.

They met three years ago, all thanks to a blueprint. They then worked in the same company. Although they had some friction over the blueprint at first, they slowly got together as time went by.

Every photo showed their faces beaming with happiness. Ines had an indescribable feeling in her heart. If their happiness was without lies, that'd be great.

Noticing that Ines was down in the dumps, Ethan started chatting with her, "Izzy, when we get married, let's organize our photos and display them too."

"We don't have many photos." Ines said.

They hadn't known each other for long, so they didn't have many chances to take photos. As they were chatting, the wedding ceremony was proceeding smoothly. Ethan got gradually absorbed, forgetting his conversation with Ines, and Joy's deception.

"Who I marry is my business. If you don't leave, I'll call security," Jeffery responded.

"Jeffery, you gave up a good girl like me to marry such a woman. There must be something wrong with your head. I came here with good intentions to stop you from being deceived by this vile woman, but you want to defend her. How is this lying woman worth your protection?" Tina's face turned red with anger.

Tina used to work with Jeffery and had always liked him, but Jeffery never had eyes for her, only Joy. This filled her with resentment, so she chose to expose everything at the wedding.

Things were getting out of hand, so Ethan immediately called the hotel manager and asked him to send someone to handle the situation.

"Okay, okay, I admit I was being nosy. You've been bewitched by this woman, but your parents need to know the truth! Everyone, hear me out. I'm telling the truth. This woman has been to jail and her character is very questionable. It's said she was a corporate spy. For money, she deliberately gave wrong blueprints to the engineering department, causing serious problems in the project. Because of her actions, someone even died." Tina said.

Rita felt dizzy. If it wasn't for Zander supporting her, she would've collapsed. Pointing at Tina, she said, "Stop spouting nonsense and get out of here. I don't want to hear another word from you."

Joy looked at Rita, her lips trembling, at a loss for words. The past had been laid bare so abruptly, and her mind was a total mess right now. Even if Tina might have spiced things up a bit, most of it was the truth, and she couldn't argue with that. She indeed had a stint in the slammer, and the construction accident a few years ago was indeed on her.
