Kellen was invited to the meeting after lunch. Kellen felt like his skin was prickling because he couldn’t believe that they had scheduled a meeting after lunch. Lunch! When Pamela had arrived on the front lines at 2 am. He had actually expected the meeting to happen before Kellen had to speak to his first class at around 9:30-10 am. After lunch was unacceptable but his standards.
It was only made worse by the absolute shit that was coming out of their mouths. They were only 2 minutes into the meeting and Kellen felt like he was going to vibrate out of his skin, he was so angry.
"Are you fucking kidding me?" Kellen couldn’t stop the words from tumbling out of his mouth. They had just finished speaking, their smug, almost proud looks on their faces making Kellen’s hands clench. His whole body felt like it was on fire. Rage boiled his blood, every part of him on alert. Even Sakura’s face was twisted with anger, her normally happy and calm expression full of fury. Kellen didn’t need to look at Rhys to know he was pissed.
"What is wrong with you?" It was Hill. She was barely contained. Thank god Sergei wasn’t here, or he might have just killed the idiots who were speaking with his fucking mind. Thank god his Mom wasn’t here. Holy shit.
The big wigs, the civilians who had no idea what being on the front lines was like were telling a call full of people who had risked their lives that...they weren’t going to do it.
They weren’t going to send a rescue party.
And that there would be severe consequences if they did.
Kellen laughed. It was a cruel, heartless sound that had a few of them shifting uncomfortably in their chairs.
"You are fucking lucky that we’re not in the same room right now." Kellen said. The fear that they had, the reason why these calls were never in person manifesting in this minute. Kellen had no doubt that half of the reason these meetings were called in like this was for convenience’s sake, and the other half was because they were scared little babies. Well, the fucking should be right now. Kellen had never felt this murderous before.
"I-Is that a threat?" The man who told Kellen asked, his voice shrill. Kellen’s smile fell from his face as he stared at the other man.
"What? Like this is the first time you’ve heard one when you’ve said something so fucking stupid out loud?" Kellen let out a harsh bark of laughter, unaware that his eyes had begun to glow. "When a dog barks, I should call it out, no?"
"Kellen..." Rhys’ voice from beside him made Kellen worry for a second that he was going too far, but Rhys’ hand only reached out, grabbing his hand. "Don’t get too close." He murmured quietly in Kellen’s ear. "I don’t want to see you get arrested." Kellen scoffed.
"A-A dog? How-"
"Watch your damn tone." Kellen growled, and the man shut up. "I can’t believe you shitheads. I once had respect for all of you, but clearly, when times get tough, you idiots tuck tail and run. No wonder Uncle Tom was able to get away with so fucking much." Kellen could see how they all shifted uncomfortably and Kellen snarled. "As soon as something like this happens, you all what? Tuck tail and run? Just because it’s going to be difficult? If we don’t deal with this issue now, we won’t have a fucking city anymore. Do you understand that?" Kellen was shouting, He was emotional.
How the hell was he supposed to remain calm when the injustice of this whole situation was washing over him. Beating at his breast, choking him, wrapping its hands around his throat and squeezing until it hurt to get words out. Kellen wanted to cry out of pure frustration.
"You’re only like this because your sister got sucked into the gate. We’re sorry that happened, but we have already lost too many members. We can’t lose anymore." Kellen felt his eyes widen at their damn boldness.
"Lost? Are you fucking kidding me? Do you know who was lost? The same young girl that you wanted to shove into the gate originally to do a little testy test and see if it would keep her in there or not. And how dare you say that I’m reacting like this just because my sister is in there? I would be reacting like this no matter who the fuck is in that gate." Kellen’s voice was loud, angry.
"Guide Woods, calm down. We understand that the Saturn Guild has been the most effected by this tragedy, but-"
"No! You shut the fuck up! I can’t believe that this is how you are going to treat us after all that we have given to you. You fucks get to live in luxury, rolling in money while we have to sacrifice our lives over and over. When was the last time that a gate appeared in the city? Hmm? Who the fuck do you have to thank for that? Hmm?" Kellen was sure it was the man at his side. He didn’t even need to look to know it was true.
The guilty looks on these fuckers faces proved his point.
