Chapter 6
In the car, he raced toward the rescue team.
On the way, he nearly ran red lights and caused accidents several times, but he didn’t care.
He didn’t understand why his emotions were spiraling out of control. Sophie was only supposed to be someone he’d married to monitor. And Erin was the one he wanted to protect at all costs.
But the moment he heard I was in trouble, he completely fell apart. Only one thought remained in his mind—he needed to find me whether alive or dead. He just wanted to find me and confess his crimes to my face.
The rescue team was busy recovering bodies.
Nathan stood at the entrance for eight hours.
But the only news he received was “missing, presumed dead“.
The rescue workers said there were too many scattered remains. In such situations, not finding a body
wasn’t unusual. They just told him to prepare for my funeral.
Nathan didn’t wait any longer. He went to the hospital to check the surveillance footage.
On the way, Erin sent several messages, asking where he was and saying her belly was hurting again. Hearing the special ringtone he’d set for Erin, Nathan felt unprecedented irritation.
He slammed on the brakes, stopping by the roadside. He rapidly typed a reply:
“If it hurts, call a doctor. You’re in a hospital, for God’s sake. Can I treat you? Michael is your husband. That’s his child in your belly. He should be by your side now, not me. Don’t contact me unless it’s
absolutely necessary!”
Turning off his phone, he entered the hospital without looking back.
Despite being just two floors away, he never once went to Erin’s room.
Finding the surveillance footage, he stared unblinkingly at my pale, weak face on the screen. Then he slapped himself hard several times in frustration.
She had been feeling unwell for days. Yet he, her husband, hadn’t noticed–and worse, had delivered the

fatal blow.
How much pain must I have felt, being rushed to the hospital alone?
He couldn’t imagine, couldn’t bear to ask. After copying the surveillance video, he drove home.
He was lost the entire way, not even answering his parents‘ calls.
Opening the door, he froze in place. The wall where our wedding photo had hung was empty.
And all my belongings had vanished from the house.
The place once filled with our laughter and joy was now cold as a tomb.
Like a madman, he searched every corner of the house. Still, he found no trace of me.
Drained of all strength, he collapsed on the floor.
With shaking hands, he lit a cigarette one after another until cigarette butis littered the ground.
He reached up to touch his face only then did he realize tears had soaked his cheeks.
The phone rang again, he answered, and his mother’s irritated voice came through immediately.
“Nathan, are you alright? I saw the news online. That bitch Sophie actually reported you to the precinct! Where is she? Send her back here so I can teach her a lesson! Erin nearly miscarried because of her and hasn’t been discharged yet. Now she dares to cause trouble again? Don’t stop me this time. I’ve disliked
her for ages. Still thinks she’s the Blake princess! Delusions!”
His mother had said similar things countless times before, always using my lack of parents to assert
dominance.
