Chapter 6
Smiling like nothing had happened, holding a huge ass bouquet of red roses.
“Eve, I screwed up. Don’t be mad, baby. Please?”
Before I could say anything, he turned to the others like he was liosting some charity event.
“I brought coffee and snacks for everyone.”
“I really upset Eve–can we get a little privacy, just for a second?”
They all got the message and started filtering out, a few tossing half–hearted support our way.
“Come on, Eve, he’s trying.”
”
“Every couple fights now and then. Don’t be so hard on him.”
Christian’s driver handed out pastries and lattes like it was damage control.
And I just stood there.
Watching this man stage–manage an apology like it was a damn Broadway play.
It made my skin crawl.
I looked him dead in the eye.
“Christian… seriously? Do you think this actually matters to me?”
“Take your flowers and get out.”
“You and I? We’re done. For good.”
I turned around and walked off without looking back.
For the next few days, Christian waited for me outside work.
Every single night.
At first, my coworkers tried to smooth things over, but after a while–they stopped.

No one touched the stuff he brought anymore.
The flowers, the cakes, the lattes…
All of it ended up in the trash.
Finally, one night after work, I walked out and–yep, there he was again.
I didn’t even pause, just tried to sidestep him.
But he grabbed my wrist.
“Eve, come on–it’s been days. You’re still mad?”
“I haven’t slept, I can’t stop thinking about you.”
Yeah, he looked like crap. Eyes dark, clothes wrinkled.
But that wasn’t my problem anymore.
I pulled my hand free and stepped back.
“Christian, I’ve said everything I needed to say. Stop following me.”
Right then, a sugary voice chimed in.
And just like that–Bianca came bouncing over, locking herself onto Christian’s arm like she belonged
there.
“Christian, it’s my birthday today! Can you stay with me? You haven’t called in days.”
He yanked his arm back, clearly annoyed.
“I already told you–we’re done. Stop showing up.”
By now, people were definitely watching.
I didn’t want to be part of this drama circus, so I tried to walk away.
But Bianca grabbed me.
“Eve, I know you’re mad. But I don’t mind sharing Christian.”
“If you could just tell him not to leave me… I won’t fight you for him.”

“He can just visit me sometimes, I’d be happy with that.”
1 froze.
What the actual hell.
I pulled my arm out of her grip and hissed.
“You know what? He’s all yours.”
“Both of you–stay the hell away from me.”
Christian rushed up like he could fix it with words.
“Eve, don’t listen to her. I swear I’m not seeing her anymore.”
“She keeps showing up–I told her it’s over!”
Right on cue, Bianca started crying.
“Eve, please don’t hate me. I was wrong.”
“I shouldn’t have tried to come between you two–please, just ask Christian to forgive me.”
They were both talking over each other.
Begging. Pleading.
And I was just stuck between them–like I hadn’t already walked away.
Suddenly, someone grabbed my wrist and pulled me into a warm embrace.
I looked up–it was Liam.
“Took you long enough. I’ve been waiting,” he said, smiling gently.
The moment our eyes met, I realized he was helping me out of this mess.
I played along immediately.
“Got stuck dealing with trash. Let’s go.”
