Chapter 2
I didn’t feel like talking anymore, so I just hung up.
The housekeeper was already packing my things.
“Ma’am, are you sure you don’t want any of these?”
She looked around the walk–in closet, full of designer brands.
All of that was stuff Johnson bought for me to wear to events.
He used to say,
“Scarlett, I don’t care what kind of life you had before.”
“Now that you’re a part of the Johnson family, cover up that broke, sad energy so you don’t embarrass me.”
I shook my head, my tone light.
“I don’t want any of those designer dresses or shoes. Just pack the rest of my stuff.”
She looked a little unsure.
“Ma’am… other than this, there’s really not much left to pack.”
I paused, then couldn’t help but laugh.
Yeah… after seven years of marriage, I really didn’t own much at all.
In this huge mansion, my “space” was just half the bed in the master suite.
Johnson didn’t come home that night, and I finally slept well.
The next morning, I grabbed my packed bag and left.
I left nothing behind…
Except a snow globe.
It was the only gift Johnson ever gave me when we were dating.
Back when I had just come to New York for school and we fell fast and hard.
He was bold and sweet, always waiting outside campus just to say hi.
That snow globe was his gift.
He told me it was the first time he ever bought something with his own money–

Chapter 2
Worked three part–time shifts just to afford it.
He said. “The snow inside never melts. Just like my love for you.”
Well… I don’t want that kind of love anymore.
After leaving the Johnson house, I checked into a hotel.
The next day. Johnson called.
“Scarlett, where the hell are you?”
“You better get back here and take your crap with you!”
I calmly replied,
“Don’t need it. Just toss it out.”
He paused, confused.
“Scarlett, are you serious?”
“Yup.”
I sounded light–like I didn’t care anymore.
“Throw it all away. None of it means anything.”
That must’ve hit a nerve.
“Doesn’t mean anything?”
“Do you even know what that snow globe-”
I laughed and cut him off.
“You mean the one you ‘worked three shifts‘ for? It sells for $65 on Amazon.”
“Mr. Johnson, what kind of job only pays $65 in three days?”
I only found out the truth after we got married-
He told someone at a party once, drunk,
“I picked up a random snow globe and got her to fall for it.”
“Scarlett was just that easy and that cheap.”
That’s when I realized-
Johnson never changed. He just stopped pretending.

Chapter 2
I hung up and headed to the law office I’d scheduled.
The attorney looked concerned after I explained my situation.
“Miss Scarlett, with the Johnsons‘ influence, a clean divorce probably isn’t on the table.”
I nodded. Of course I knew.
That’s why I was willing to give everything up.
“What if I don’t want any money or property?”
