Chapter 547 A Shiver Down
His Spine
Noah returned to the Emerald Hotel.
The moment he stepped into the lobby, he nearly ran into someone.
The man was humming aimlessly, his steps light, his whole face glowing with smug satisfaction.
Nathan.
Noah’s steps slowed. His expression turned cold, like the temperature around him had dropped ten degrees.
Behind him, Jack felt a silent wave of pity–for Nathan.
Nathan had just walked straight into disaster. They hadn’t even started looking for him yet, and here he was, throwing
himself right into their path.
Nathan spotted them too.
His grin froze on his face. His eyes went wide, like he’d just seen a ghost.
Why was Patrick here again? Was this man haunting him now? There was no way this was real–it had to be a nightmare. He tried to convince himself, but his legs moved faster than his brain. He turned and bolted.
Run. Run now! Staying meant trouble. He wasn’t dumb enough to stick around for it.
Noah’s lips lifted in a cold, knowing curve. He lifted his chin slightly, exchanging a look with Jack.
Jack got the message. Without a word, he darted forward, catching up with Nathan in seconds.
Before Nathan could even shout, Jack grabbed his arm, twisted it hard, and flipped him clean over his shoulder.
Bang! Nathan slammed into the marble floor with a loud, painful thud.
Guests in the lobby jumped at the sound, their faces draining of color. They hurried away, pretending not to notice, desperate to stay out of whatever mess was unfolding.
Nathan felt like his whole skeleton had shifted. His vision spun; his ribs screamed in protest. Cold sweat broke across his
forehead.
He gasped. “Ow–ow! For crying out loud! That hurts like hell! Go easy, man! You’re gonna break me in half!”
Noah strolled over, unhurried, stopping right in front of him.
Nathan tried to push himself up, but Jack’s hand pressed firmly on his shoulder, keeping him down.
Pinned and out of options, Nathan put on his signature roguish grin.
“Mr. Noel! What a surprise running into you again!” Nathan’s smile looked more like he was in pain than pleased.
“Back from a trip, huh? Still looking sharp as ever!” Even he felt embarrassed hearing himself say it. “So, if there’s nothing else, I’ll be on my way. I’ve got urgent business to attend to, so I won’t keep you.” His eyes flicked to Jack, who stood like a statue beside him. The man didn’t budge. Didn’t even blink. So, no chance of slipping away.
Noah finally spoke, his voice like a blade sliding over ice. “Since we’ve crossed paths, Mr. Higgins, I’d say this is perfect timing. There are a few things we should talk about.”
Nathan’s stomach dropped.
Before he could even come up with a pitiful excuse, Jack grabbed him by the arm and hauled him clean off the floor, dragging him toward the elevator.
“Hey, hey, hey! I can walk! Seriously, I can walk on my own!” Nathan struggled, but it was like wrestling with a brick wall.
The elevator doors slid shut behind them.
Not long after, Nathan found himself thrown into a room like a sack of potatoes.
