“Don’t worry, ma’am. It’s just a side effect of the trauma.” The doctor put away the equipment and spoke calmly. “Your brain suffered a severe impact, causing temporary damage to your optic nerve. It should recover on its own after some time.”

“Really?” Sadie felt a wave of relief, but she was still worried. “How long will it take?”

“It varies from person to person. Some recover in a few days, while others take months,” the doctor patiently explained. “The most important thing right now is for you to rest well and keep a positive mood. It goes a long way in helping with

your recovery.”

Sadie nodded, finally feeling at ease. As long as she could recover, it didn’t matter how long it might take.

Only then did she remember something else. “How long have I been unconscious?”

“You’ve been in a coma for four days. Mr. Wall has stayed by your side every day. He left just now.”

“Noah?” Sadie’s heart skipped a beat, a mix of emotions rising in her chest.

Had he actually stayed with her? Why? Was it out of guilt, or… something else?

Sadie didn’t dare to dwell on it, fearing that she might read something that wasn’t there into it.

“Doctor,” Sadie began, then hesitated for a few seconds. “Is it all right if you don’t tell him I’ve woken up? Not yet, anyway.”

“I just need some time to clear my head,” Sadie continued. “I have things I need to sort out by myself.”

“I see. I suppose it’s fine.” The doctor nodded in agreement.

Sadie breathed an inward sigh of relief. Her biggest concern at the moment was the situation of the Howe family.

“Doctor, have you heard any news about the Howe family?” she asked tentatively.

“Well…” The doctor cocked his head to the side before shaking it. “I’m a doctor, so I’m not knowledgeable in the goings–on

“I will not budge on this,” he said firmly. “You need to stay in the hospital for further observation, until your condition is completely stable.”

“All right,” Sadie said with a resigned sigh. She had no choice but to forget about leaving for now.

“Thank you in advance, doctor,” Sadie said softly.

“You’re welcome.” The doctor smiled and turned to leave the room.

The nurses followed him out, leaving Sadie alone.

She lay back on the bed and stared at the ceiling, her mind a mess. She had no idea what could have been happening while

she was unconscious.

How was the Howe family doing? What else had Noah done?

As the minutes ticked by, Sadie grew more anxious.

Much later, when the sky had darkened, the door to her room opened again, and a familiar figure walked in.

“Sadie!” Nanette cried when she saw Sadie on the bed, her eyes welling up with tears. “You finally woke up! You had me
