Ruby couldn’t believe the nerve of Selene to threaten her. Selene was only able to speak up because Xavier was by her side.
Ruby regretted not trapping Selene in this home, keeping her under her control so nothing like this would ever happen. She had underestimated Selene by once believing Selene wouldn’t dare speak back to them since she was all alone.
It would have been best to find a way to claim that Selene was in on her parents’ plans so the court would take her away and they would never have to deal with Selene again.
Ruby refused to back down. "This is Trevor’s home. You already have a large estate to yourself."
"So? This home has always belonged to me and my parents. Don’t you have a home for you and your husband? Why don’t you move elsewhere and give it to Trevor if you are so concerned about him having a home? I am not letting this get back into your hands," said Selene.
This home was out of Selene’s hands for far too long. It was almost unrecognisable with how many changes they made to it. Everything Selene adored about it was gone.
"All of you try to make me the bad one for wanting my home back when it was all of you who waited for me when I was mourning to come take what you could. Instead of pointing fingers at me, you should focus on how you acted. Since none of you treated me like family, I will do the same. Get off what belongs to me," Selene said, her patience gone.
Ruby laughed. "You’ve always been a silly girl lost in a fantasy world. How were we to keep acting like family after what your parents did? Do you think the court only looked into them? All of us were questioned and accused. After what we went through, we were owed something. You should be upset your parents did the unthinkable."
"When you first showed up here after they were killed, I was relieved. I thought I would have a helping hand to look after the home while I dealt with burying them. Little did I know how much you hated my mother and envied the life my father offered her. I wouldn’t be surprised if you spoke lies about them to have them killed," Selene said.
There wasn’t anything Selene could put past Ruby at this point.
Ruby scoffed, offended Selene thought she was jealous. "I wasn’t jealous. Look where he led her."
"I will make sure to remind you every chance I get of how you begged her for things and she was so kind to give it to you. I know how my uncle is. He won’t spoil you as you like so it must have annoyed you to see how my father was. Trevor isn’t smart to pull off taking my home from me so it was all you. You got what you had been eyeing for years," Selene said, seeing right through Ruby.
Ruby had put on a good act for years and only after Selene’s parents died did she reveal her true nature.
"Xavier, an hour was too kind. They didn’t give me that kindness when they tried to get rid of me. Toss everything belonging to them out the gates. I don’t want it piling up at the door and if they try to block the guards’ path, do whatever is necessary to get them out of the way," said Selene.
Why should she be kind to the people who mistreated her?
Selene didn’t care how her words came off to others. If she continued to have a bit of kindness in her heart for these people, they were going to think they could treat her as they liked.
Selene turned around to go back to the carriage, trusting that Xavier would get them out for her. She planned to keep a watchful eye on Ruby to see if she would be foolish to raise her hand to Xavier again. Ruby might face a broken hand if she was not careful.
Ruby looked at Xavier, only to realise that he had been smiling while she spoke to Selene. "You cannot. Please," she pleaded.
