Kelly’s POV
We sent Pierce’s family and our Snow to the airport on the night after our wedding. I didn’t know why dad, Pierce’s father, wanted to leave immediately. It’s probably because of the mess but I didn’t ask because I trust him.
“Bye, mommy. Bye, daddy.” Snow was so happy while waving at us. Pierce’s arm was wrapped around my waist with his hand against my stomach.
Dad was carrying Snow while they’re entering the airport terminal. I already feel sad just by the thought of my daughter sleeping without me but I know this is for the best. I can’t keep her by my side when there’s a threat to our lives.
I felt Pierce kiss my hair after they disappeared from our sight.
“We’ll pick her up once this is over,” he whispered.
Actually, he wanted me to leave too. He said it’s safer for me and the baby in my tummy if we leave for another country but I don’t wanna leave him here. Besides, the enemy is my uncle. I have to bring him down on my own. To somehow give justice to my mother’s death.
“Let’s go,” I said to Pierce after I readied myself. We’re going to Emily’s condo tonight to talk about what happened.
Pierce drove silently while I’m silently sitting in the passenger seat. Pierce’s hand would either stay on my hand or on the gear stick. I’m thinking of a way to end this. I can’t just attack Connor Foster. I have to make him attack first because that’s the only way we could catch him lefthanded. He’s smart just like my mom, so I don’t think he would allow me to discover the skeletons he’s been hiding in his closet. I need to...find that closet first and trigger him to open it for me and because of what Emily did, I know Connor Foster will come after us.
When we reached Emily’s condo, I was shocked to see unfamiliar faces of men wearing black suits. They have earpieces in their ears and I realized they’re Emily’s bodyguards.
I found my good friend sitting on the couch waiting for us. I immediately rushed to her and hugged her. I felt her stiffen but I tightened my hug more as I squeezed my eyes closed.
“What have you done?”
She shook her head and pulled away from the hug. She looked at me and held my hand before her eyes landed on Pierce standing behind me.
She sucked her breath and looked at me again. “I’m sorry. I was...impulsive.”
I pulled her to seat. “Were you hurt? What happened? How did you find him?”
“I found him in a secluded place, Kelly. The guards looking after him are all dead. We...killed them.”
My lips parted in shock before my eyes wandered on her whole body. “How ‘bout you? Were you hurt?”
“No, I wasn’t. I have men to protect me, Kelly. It was...Matt who’s hurt. He...protected me when I was almost shot. I-I was so...scared.”
“How is he?”
“H-He’s in the bedroom.” Her voice cracked. “He got shot on his stomach.”
My forehead creased. “Why didn’t you bring him to the hospital?”
She shook her head. “My men were once part of an illegal organization, Kelly. They can’t be exposed to the authorities. Besides, I don’t trust the police.”
