Chapter 129: Chapter 129 The Decision

Kelly’s POV

Klay’s threat changed my mind. It brought me to a decision that I don’t know if I would regret later or not. I’m standing in front of the law firm where Attorney Lee was working. I called him early this morning after I thought about everything for almost three days.

It’s too much. I feel sinking. Klay’s threat is scaring me because he talked about Snow now, not just me. I’m not scared for myself and he must’ve realized that. He’s obsessed with me. He might not hurt me but he will hurt my daughter. All because she’s Pierce’s daughter.

Heaving a deep sigh, I entered the law firm and went straight to the information desk. I gave my ID to the staff and she immediately assisted me to the elevator while telling me directions to Attorney Lee’s office.

My heart was beating so loud and fast. When I reached the office, the good lawyer greeted me with a pleased smile.

“Good morning, Miss Monroe. Have a seat.”

I nodded and sat on the chair in front of his desk. I put my bag on my lap and intertwined my fingers.

“Do you want coffee? Juice or water?”

I immediately shook my head. “It’s okay, Attorney. I came here to talk to you about my mom’s real family.”

He nodded and seemed to become more attentive. “Have you decided?”

I bit my bottom lip and sucked my breath. I’ve researched the Foster family. Lined with Anderson, Walter and Monroe that almost sank, Foster’s family business was one of the most successful businesses in the country. If ADE has always been the leading company for magazines, Foster Empire has been the leading hotel and restaurant company. It’s absurd how everything turned out to be this extravagant when I was just dreaming for a simple and happy life. I never wanted wealth. All I wanted was my dad’s love and attention. He didn’t fail on those parts but I failed him as a daughter. Now, my mom’s past is seeking my attention, I don’t wanna fail again. I want to know everything about my mother whilst protecting what’s precious to me in the present time.

“I...want to meet my mother’s family, Attorney.”

Attorney Lee happily snapped his fingers. “That’s a very good choice, Miss Monroe. When do you want to meet them so I can inform them beforehand?”

“Can I meet them tomorrow, Attorney?”

He smiled even more. “That’s a very good decision, Miss Monroe. Madam Foster doesn’t really want her eldest to manage the company. So when she was on her deathbed, she begged me to find your mom or her child as soon as possible.”

My forehead creased. “She doesn’t trust her eldest son?”

“She doesn’t trust his capability of carrying the responsibility of her legacy. She wants her legacy to continue and if Connor will be the one who will handle the family business, it will sink in less than ten years.”

I chewed my bottom lip. “How about her other children? And mom disappeared when she was young. How sure is she that mom can handle a big company?”

“Your mom was born intelligent, Miss Monroe. She was exposed to the world early because of her intelligence and when the people learned about her background, they became more interested in her. Your uncle and aunt, however, are the opposite.”

“So Madam Foster had a high expectation of my mom...”

“Yes.”

I nodded. “I want to know everything about my mom. How did she end up with the Peterson family? Who abducted her and why?”

“Are you ready to hear everything, Kelly?”

My lips parted as I stared at Attorney Lee. I felt like it’s a warning. I feel like I’m about to discover something very unusual and painful that I have to prepare myself emotionally and mentally.

Attorney Lee grabbed a brown thick folder from the vault he opened. He put it on the table and gently pushed it towards me. “Madam Foster entrusted this to me since I helped her with the investigation from the very beginning. However, she was unable to finish the investigation because she fell sick. I had to do this alone and now that it’s done, it’s time for you to keep this.”

I stared at the brown envelope. “Why do I feel like it’s scary, Attorney?”
