“Will you stay with me?” Austyn asked. 

Kira nodded. 

The kids would be coming this afternoon. 

She would stay here and wait for them. 

She sat down on the chair Luca vacated and picked up her phone. 

Austyn watched her. 

Kira texted Isabel to ask about the twins. 

She looked up five minutes later and, sure enough, Austyn’s eyes were still open. 

He had not stopped staring at her. 

“What are you doing?

“What’s the point of telling you now? You don’t remember me. It’ll be like hearing a stranger’s story.” 

‘But the marriage certificate proves you are my wife. 

‘It’s just a piece of paper.‘ Kira shrugged. ‘Besides, you are going to get a new wife soon, aren’t you?” 

Austyn thought he detected a hint of bitterness in her words. 

He knew whom she was referring to, of course. 

But Hira didn’t know that he would never get a new wife.

Austyn sat up straighter in bed. ‘We need to talk.
