She could rell Jennie had taken to Austyn. 

She just didn’t expect her daughter would develop such a strong attachment to him in such a short time. 

For the first time, she realised that having a father In Jennie’s life could mean a lot to the little girl 

She tried her best to give the kids a good life, but she could never completely replace the role of a father figure 

Kira looked at her daughter’s crestfallen face and wasn’t sure of what to say. 

Jeshua came to her rescue. Jennie, Daddy went to work. He’s not gone. Just like Mummy has to go to work, too.” 

Though the twins were of the same age, Joshua was much more precocious than Jennie. 

Jennie’s face lit up. “So Daddy will come home after he’s done with work?! 

Joshua glanced at Kira, who immediately said, “Of course. Now, go have fun in school. I’ll pick you up in the afternoon” Jennie nodded. 

She hugged Kira “Bye, Muminy.” 

Kira planted a kiss on Jennie’s rosy cheelc. “Bye, honey.” 

She patted Joshua’s head. ‘Talor care of your sister,” 

Joshua nodded. 

Kira waited till she saw both kids go into the classroom before sprinting to the bus stop. 

She was running late for work. 

dumbstruck when she opened the door to see her young master standing on the doorstep. 

It had been four years since she last saw him, but he had changed not one bit. 

Kai was there to catch her when she fainted 

After she came to, she had to hold on to Austyn’s wrist to make sure she wasn’t dreaming. 

“Young Madam will be so thrilled,‘ she said through her tears. 

‘Why isn’t she staying here? Austyn asked. 

He didn’t recognise the housekeeper, but he wasn’t averse to her motherly touch. 

Elsie sighed. “She moved out of here after she gave birth to the twins. She cut off all ties with the McCarthy family after her father passed away. She won’t even let Charlotte visit the kids,” 

“Where is my…my mother? Austyn was a little nervous about meeting Charlotte 

Elsie shook her head, indignant. ‘Charlotte was taken by Master McCarthy. She’s kept under house arrest at Cedarwood Mansion, the McCarthy family residence! 

Austyn knitted his brows 

Kal told him about what Henry did, 

Austyn found it hard to accept that he had such a cruel, heartless man for a father. 

Sensing Austyn’s dark mood, Kai changed the topic. “Elsie, maybe we should show Boss his 

Boss his old room.” 

Elsie stood up. ‘Of course. Right this way. I’ve left everything untouched. The room is cleaned every day. 

Kai took her aside after she led Austyn to the master bedroom upstairs. ‘Elsie, there’s something I have to tell you 

“Boss has lost his memory.‘ 

‘What?‘ Elsie’s mouth hung open. 

She swayed on her feet, 

Kal was afraid she might faint again. 

Luckily, she regained her composure. 

*I think it’s best if you don’t tell Mrs McCarthy about Boss’s return yet,‘ Kai said. ‘She’s going to be heartbroken if her son doesn’t recognise her.” Elsie mulled it over. 

Her shoulders sagged. ‘I was going to call her just now…Fine, I guess you are right.” 

Her Diaries 

Austyn entered the spacious master bedroom. 

The first thing he noticed was the vase on the credenza. 

Fresh lilies gave off a pleasant scent and seemed to brighten up the entire room. 

The king–sized bed was made. 

Two pillows were arranged side by side, but it was clear that no one had slept in the bed for a long time. 

Austyn picked up a light brown teddy bear sitting on one pillow. 

He saw a pink version of this in Kira’s apartment the day before. 

He thought it belonged to Jennie. 

But now he realised that maybe mother and daughter shared the same fondness for plush toys. 

The thought of Kira playing with the doll brought a smile to his lips. 

Austyn put down the doll, but it rolled off the pillow and fell onto the floor. 

He bent down to retrieve it 

That was when he noticed something under the bed. 

He hesitated briefly, then he crawled under it and removed the box. 

It was a cardboard box, the type used to store shoes. 

There was a piggy bank with some coins inside, several stacks of cash bundled with rubber bands, and a few notebooks 

Austyn picked one up and flipped through it. 

He realised it was a diary. 

*4th June. First day of our wedding. The groom is not here. Probably out somewhere fooling around 

*26th June. Finally saw my husband today. He showed up two weeks after the wedding day. Still as tall and handsome as I remembered. But just as cold. Didn’t even call my name.” 

‘5th July. OMG! He saw me naked! I didn’t know he was in the bedroom! I forgot Elsie was doing laundry today and all the towels in the bathroom were gone. Had to come out in the buff after taking a shower. He saw everything! OMG!! 

Austyn read on. 

The first diary was filled with mostly complaints about him. 

The second one wasn’t much better. 

15th May. Can’t believe Austyn’s actually involved with Kayleigh Woods, the A–list actress! Sierra must be willing to be a boatload of money for this exclusive! Shall I sell the info to her?” 

18th May. Wow. Sierra paid me a thousand bucks just for a couple of answers about Austyn McCarthy, I think I just found a quick way to make money! Austyn didn’t know if he should be pleased or offended that Kira Hewitt, who was supposed to be his wife, was trading his personal information for 

money. 

He could almost see the mischievous glint in her eyes as she huddled with her client‘ and haggled over the price of his information. 

He sat on the bed and read through all the diaries. 

The last one gave him pause. 

The pages were slightly yellowed and stained with something that looked suspiciously like tear marks. 

26th October. Everybody tells me you are dead. The search and rescue mission has been called off. But I’m not giving up!‘ 

5th November. Luca found a body in the river. The face was all swollen. But I just knew it wasn’t you‘ 

‘2nd December. The baby’s kicking me. The morning sickness just refuses to go away. I can’t eat anything without pulding my guts out.” 

3rd January. The doctor told me I’m having twins. Twins! If only you were here…” 

10th January, I threw up again after trying to force food down my throat. Elsie is a good cook. But I can’t keep anything down. babies will starve if I don’t eat. I have to eat!‘ 

1. But the doctor said the 

26th March. It’s been six months now, Austyn, where are you? I’ve been looking for you every day. I don’t know how long I can hold out.‘ 

1st May. They say you are dead. But I refuse to believe it. How can you be dead when you haven’t even held your babies in your arms? Austyn, I miss yo 

so much.” 

Austyn’s hands trembled when he read the last sentence, and his breathing became heavy, 

The woman was just a stranger to him, but why did he feel a dull ache in his heart as he read these?
