The muscles on Sean’s face twitched uncontrollably. 

He was beyond enraged. “Kneel and apologise to my brother!! 

Ronald had jogged back into the warehouse, sweating 

He picked up Austyn’s Sig Sauer from the floor. 

‘Bass, there’s no one outside.‘ 

“Grab the woman in the cage!‘ 

“Which one? 

“The one in the red dress, you moron“‘ 

Ronald unlocked the cage with his key. 

*Kneel, or 1 all her! Sean bared his breth 

Ronald yanked on Kira’s hair and dragged her forcibly out of the cage. 

“Let me go!” She bit the man’s hand. 

“Fuck!‘ Ronald dropped the gun. 

He backhanded Kira across the face. ‘Bitch‘ 

Austyn was breathing heavily. 

Rage burned in his eyes. “Let her go!” 

Kira felt the sharp pain in her scalp as she was hauled to her feet. 

Sean gestured for Ronald to come to him. 

I’ll let her go if you kneel.‘ 

Austyn clenched his fists. 

‘It’s a simple trade. Sean said with a maniacal gleam in his eyes. ‘I’m going to give you one last chance. Kneel, or I kill her!! 

He swung the gun towards Kira. 

She flinched: 

Ronald had both her arms pinned behind her back. 

‘No‘ Kira cried out ‘Don’t do it! Don’t listen to him! He’s got bom–Aah!” 

Ronald gave her hair a hard jerk. 

Austyn clenched his jaw. 

Shut

He closed his eyes, taking a deep breath. 

He had never knelt in front of anyone, not even his father. 

He agreed with Emiliano Zapata; he’d rather die standing than live kneeling, 

But he couldn’t bear to watch Kira suffer. 

He was a man. 

He could survive anything 

Wounded pride was nothing compared to her life. 

He’d come here tonight prepared to trade his life for hers.

Austyn opened his eyes slowly. 

He fastened his gaze on Kira, who was looking at him teary–eyed 

Her cheeks were red and swollen, with visible finger marks. 

If it weren’t for Austyn, she wouldn’t have suffered any of this,

Austyn bent his knees. 

They touched the concrete floor with a dull thud. 

Austyn knelt in front of Sean, his head held high. 

“No!‘ Kira’s scream was muffled. 

She wanted to rim to him, but Ronald held her in a tight armlock 

Sem threw his brad back and laughed. 

The devilish sound reverberated in the warehouse 

When he finally stopped, his face, his ears and his neck were flushed with excitement. 

“Ah, how the mighty have fallen!” He wiped away a drop of tear from the corner of his eye. “The arrogant bastard, brought to his knees! 

Sean snarled. “You think you’re better than us, you and your sanctimonious gun–toting soldiers. You slaughtered my brother and left without a backward glance. There weren’t even enough pieces of him left for a proper burial!” 

His spat. ‘Do you think I’m going to let you off this easily? How stupid do you think I am?” 

He pointed the Walther at Austyn’s face. “Who do you think I should kill first? You? Or your bitchy wife? Or her twin?” 

“Choose!” he bellowed. 

Austyn’s eyes were level with Sean’s stomach. 

He said nothing 

‘I asked you‘–Sea yanked on Austyn’s collar, forcing him to look up–to choose! Who’s going to die first?” 

Austyn head–betted Sean, ramming his hard forehead against the man’s soft belly. 

‘Fuck!‘ 

The Impact knocked the wind out of Sean. 

Austyn didn’t wait for him to recover. 

His right hand shot up, quick as lightning and snatched the gum from Sean’s hand while his left hand delivered a vicious uppercut to Sean’s jaw 

Sean was knocked back on his heels. 

He staggered, flailing his arms wildly, 

Mastyn shot to his feet and stomped on Sean’s kneecap 

Sean stumbled and fell to the floor, landing on his ass, 

Before he could stand up, Austyn had held the gun to his temple 

“Now who’s going to die first, hmmm?!! 

“Ronald!” Sean barked. 

‘Drop the gun!‘ Ronald had Kira In a chokehold. Drop it now!‘ 

Kira struggled to breathe. 

Her face was turning blue. 

She tried to drive her elbow into Ronald’s stomach, but the man fast groaned and did not loosen his grip. 

Ho struck the back of her head with a vicious blow. 

Kira’s mouth was wide open, trying to suck in alt. 

She clawed at Ronald’s arms in vain 

‘I said, drop the gun Ronald roared. ‘Drop it, or I kill her!‘ 

Austyn checked the time in his head 

Not yet. 

He straightened up slowly. 

Ronald shivered at Austyn’s baletul glance. 

‘What are you looking at?” He used Kira as a shield. I said, drop it!‘ 

Austyn lowered his eyes. 

The gun was still pointed at Sean, but he didn’t appear worried at all 

After a minute that felt like a century, Austyn stepped back. 

The gun clattered to the floor.. 

Sean swore and threw a sideswipe.

His fist connected with Austyn’s jaw. 

Austyn staggered on his feet. 

Sean followed up with more vicious punches. 

He struck Austyn in his stomach, kicked him, slammed his fists into Austyn’s ribs. 

He hit Austyn with blow after blow after blow. 

Austyn shifted his position so Sean had his back to the stairs. 

He turned his face away from Kira. 

He didn’t want her to see him like this. 

Sean, enraged by Austyn’s calmness, pelted him with his fists. 

Austyn didn’t put up a fight. 

His lips were swollen and bleeding 

His face was bruised. 

But he didn’t fight back. 

He just stood there and took the blows with his usual, monk–like stoicism 

Kira was trembling violently 

The pain of suffocation was nothing compared to the pain in her heart. 

She was blinded by tears 

Less than five hours ago, men at the party bowed to Austyn and chose their words carefully, afraid of offending him. 

He was treated with respect and awe 

But now he was almost beaten to a bloody pulp. 

Because of her. 

He forced himself to be Santoro’s punching bag because of her 

He could’ve fought back and overpowered Santoro–she’d seen him do it—but he didn’t because of her. Kira’s heart was bleeding.

He kept going until his hands grew

“That’s all you got?” Austyn’s hoarse volce stopped him dead. 

Sean whirled around 

He narrowed his eyes at Austyn, who slowly picked himself up from the floor. 

Austyn wiped off the blood on his face with the back of his hand. 

He stood erect, locking eyes with Sean. 

‘Sean Santoro, I overestimated you.” 

“Oh yeah? I could say the same to you‘ Sean saw his Walther lying on the floor behind Austyn. “You gave up your pride for a pussy, which makes you one, 

Austyn shook his head. ‘You spent ten years putting the plan together, yet at the last moment, you let emotions get the better of you
