I Know Why Austyn Married You 

Kira Hewitt was a little forward, but she was also friendly. 

That dress made her look like a young princess who should live in a castle and be doted on by everyone around her. 

She was nothing like the temperamental, hot–headed scamp Gideon described. 

Gwen would have liked her if they’d met under any other circumstances 

But she couldn’t. 

The more likeable Kira Hewitt was, the harder it was to draw Gideon away from her. 

Gwen would have much preferred if Hewitt was an arrogant, spoiled diva. 

She took a deep breath to calm the rising ride of irritation in her bosom. 

‘I have somewhere else to be,” she said evenly. If you’ll excuse me, miss.” 

‘Oh, okay. Sorry to have bothered you Kira offered an apologetic smile and stood aside to let Gwen pass 

She had more questions, but the woman was clearly not in the mood for conversation. 

Kira resisted the urge to snap a picture of the woman. 

She didn’t have her phone with her anyway. 

She wanted to have proof when she recounted this strange encounter to Austyn later. 

Without a picture, he probably wouldn’t believe she’d found her doppelgänger. 

Austyn knew the event organiser. 

Maybe he had a way to find out the woman’s name, 

‘Kira Hewitt!” 

Kira tumed around when she heard her name. 

That voice was familiar. 

She raised an eyebrow when she saw who it was. 

Kayleigh Woods was standing in the shadows behind a potted plant. 

What was she doing here? 

Kira started walking 

She had no interest in talking to the actress. 

That woman had brought her nothing but trouble. 

“Stop!‘ Kayleigh raised her voice. “I want to talk to you!‘ 

‘But I don’t want to talk to you.‘ 

“I have something to tell you! 

“Not interested,‘ 

Kayleigh stomped her feet. 

‘Don’t you want to know why Austyn married you?” 

Her words stopped Kira dead in her tracks. 

She clenched her fists. 

She’d posed the question to Austyn before, but he prevaricated and gave her a tongue–in–cheek answer. 

He said he married her out of charity. 

-Kira wasn’t convinced, but she knew better than to push. 

Austyn helped save her father. 

That was a fact 

She shouldn’t look a gift horse in the mouth. 

The motive for his action, whatever it was, shouldn’t matter, right? 

So Kira let it go 

But doubt lingered.

It gnawed away at her mind. 

Could Kayleigh really have the answer? 

Kira wanted to walk away. 

‘I don’t care,” she said to herself. 

But her feet refused to move. 

“Stop lying to yourself, another voice said in her heart. “You do care. 

Kira huffed, spun around and marched over to Kayleigh. “Why?” 

Kayleigh smiled. ‘Follow me Let’s find a quiet place to talk! 

“Why can’t we just talk here?” Kira didn’t want to go anywhere with her. 

‘I’m a high–profile actress Kayleigh raised her chin. “Once people see me, they’re going to want photos and autographs.” 

Kira recalled the last time she left with Kayleigh. “Where’s your henchman?” 

*If you mean my bodyguard, he took the day off.” 

The truth was, Frank had been recalled by the company, along with Kayleigh’s agent, assistants and chauffeur, 

MS Entertainment was forcing Kayleigh to take a one–year break from her career. 

All thanks to this Hewitt woman. 

Kayleigh started walking away, heading for a side door. 

She knew Howitt would follow her. 

Kira hesitated for a moment. 

The banquet hall was filled with people. 

This was a public venue. 

Kayleigh was a public figure. 

Without her burly bodyguard by her side, she probably couldn’t do much damage. 

Kira chased after the actress. 

Gwen observed the exchange from some distance away. 

She couldn’t see the person Kira was tallding to, but the look on Kira’s face caught her attention. 

Then Kira left with that person. 

They were heading towards a door leading out of the banquet hall. 

Gwen didn’t catch the entire conversation, but she heard one word distinctly-“married.‘ 

She thought about Gideon. 

What would he think if he found out his beloved was already with someone else? 

She followed the duo at a distance. 

Kira was getting impatient. 

Kayleigh just kept on walking, turning this way and that. 

They were no longer in the banquet hall. 

Instead, Kira found herself in a dimly lit passageway probably meant for service personnel. 

“When I was about your age, Austyn spoiled me rotten.‘ Kayleigh had a faraway look in her eyes. “He gave me everything I asked for. He gave me a good life, a good career, and most importantly, he gave me his love.” 

She smiled wistfully. I was the luckiest woman in the entire world. Oh, how the others envied me. They coveted what I had. But I knew they couldn’t take it away from me. They couldn’t take Austyn away from me. I was going to marry him and we’d live happily ever after.” 

Kayleigh halted. 

Her smile evaporated. ‘But you! You’re just a nobody. You came out of nowhere and moved into Austyn’s house. YOU became Mrs McCarthy!! 

Kira listened with a blank face. 

She should have expected this. 

Kayleigh didn’t know the answer.
