She Spent Five Hours With Cane 

His face hovered above hers. 

‘What’s wrong with you?” she complained. 

Austyn didn’t hear her. 

He ripped off the buttons on her blouse and yanked down the zipper of her jeans. 

He entered her without foreplay. 

Kira was so shocked, she forgot to struggle. 

Austyn paused when he saw her face contorted with pain. 

Beads of sweat dripped from his forehead onto her face. 

He waited for her to adjust, for her body to be ready, and then he pounded her without mercy. 

He was rougher tonight than all the previous times. 

Kira looked up and stared into the void that was his eyes. 

She bit back a moan. 

An hour later, he finally stopped. 

Kira lay on her back. 

She couldn’t move a muscle. 

Austyn got up, walked to the window and lit a cigarette. 

The room was shrouded in darkness. 

The curtains were drawn. 

The only source of light was the glowing cigarette tip. 

‘Did you like it?‘ Austyn asked, his voice hoarse. “Was that good for you?‘ 

Kira grabbed the headboard for support and slowly sat up. 

She covered herself with the quilt. 

Her clothes lay on the floor, torn to shreds. 

Austyn flicked on the light. 

Kira stared at him, shocked. 

Austyn’s hair was tousled,

His suit jacket was open, revealing a crumpled shirt. 

He had not taken off his clothes earlier. 

His eyes were bloodshot.. 

It was a scary sight to behold.. 

‘I went to the hospital,‘ he said. ‘You weren’t there, but Dr Morrison was. Guess what he told 

me.” 

The hospital. 

Kira’s eyes widened. 

Could Austyn have seen Gideon there? 

She wanted to ask, but was afraid to hear the answer. 

‘I came home. Sure enough, you weren’t here. I sat on the sofa for five hours. I went through two packs of cigarettes. All I could think about was, what were you doing in those five hours? What were you doing with…him.‘ 

Kira opened her mouth. ‘I…‘ 

‘Tell me, what were you doing with Liam Cane?” 

Her head snapped up. ‘Liam?‘ 

Austyn was talking about Liam? 

‘Dr Morrison saw Cane carry you away in his arms. Do you want to deny it?” 

‘I… Kira fumbled for words. ‘I’m not denying it. Yes, I was with him, but-‘ 

‘What did I tell you?‘ Austyn stared down at her. ‘Did I not tell you to stay away from him? Did you get a sudden case of amnesia? Or did you turn a deaf ear to everything I said?‘ 

Now Kira knew who had gotten his goat. 

If this were any other time, she would have felt offended by his accusatory tone. 

But today, a guilty conscience held her back. 

Not guilt over having done anything with Liam–she hadn’t. 

But she had seen Gideon today, and the things he did.. 

And then she somehow ended up in Liam’s house. 

Austyn’s anger was justified. 

Kira hung her head. ‘I was wrong. I’m sorry. I won’t do it again.” 

Austyn strode over to the bed and lifted her chin with two fingers, forcing her to look at him.” Did you treat my warning as a joke?‘ 

Kira shook her head. 

“Why did you go with Cane?” 

Why couldn’t she understand that Liam Cane was just using her? 

By playing with fire, she would only get herself burned in the process. 

Kira didn’t know where to start. 

If she told him she fell asleep and Liam took her home while she was unconscious, would he believe it? 

It was the truth, but it sounded outlandish even to her own ears.
