......
When it came to the immediate future, peace was what she needed most urgently. She wanted a calm life.
Incidents at nightclubs were different compared to normal ones. People would pick fights for no reason at all, which was overwhelming. Not to mention, they would start hitting each other at the slightest disagreement. It was common to see blood being shed. Her life had been exhausting enough.
Although her own life was done for, she still had many people she cared about.
They looked at each other. Elijah stared at her for a long time. When Carolien thought that she was about to be rejected again, she heard something unexpected.
"Okay. I'll give you a chance."
"Really?"
Carolien was ecstatic. She jumped off the high chair and nearly fell into his embrace again. This time, it was a close call. She grabbed onto the bar counter next to her, and the distance between them was barely a hair's breadth. She was able to gain her balance enough not to slam into him.
"Don't you think it's a bit too early for you to celebrate? I'm not done yet," he stated.
Looking up, Carolien was stunned again.
The next second, a business card was placed in front of her He tapped lightly on the business card, and Elijah began speaking coldly.
"Go look for Hudson. If you can get SOY Starshine's contract within three days, I'll work with you. Otherwise, you'll have to stay out of my sight forever. Of course, you can also choose to give up right now. I-"
He wasn't going to force her.
Initially, he thought that she would definitely dodge the question or start complaining. Unexpectedly, before he could even finish talking, Carolien instantly took the business card. "It's a deal! It's already late right now, so how about you start counting from 8 a.m. tomorrow? You won't get angry over such a small delay, right?"
After all, she was not sure what kind of contract he was referring too.
Regardless, Carolien knew that it was a God-given chance. It was always good to have hope.
That was exactly what left Elijah shocked. It was surprising that she accepted his request without any questions. Getting SOY Starshine's contract was a headache, even for him.
After shrugging, Elijah nodded. "Okay. Whatever you say."
"In that case, I'm going to go do some research. I won't bother you anymore, Mr. Luther."
Getting up, Carolien was ready to leave. After turning away, she once again snapped her head back. "You won't go back on your word, will you?"
With the corner of his mouth slightly curved, Elijah's eyes grew darker. Suddenly, he raised his hand and caressed her smooth jaw.
"I'm a man of my word. If you can do it, I will make an exception... I'll allow you to stay with me for a year, and I will make sure that the Luther family will own Misty's forever," he replied.
Thinking about it, it was a win-win situation. If she could get the contract, that would be a win for him; if she couldn't, then he would be able to get rid of another problem. Without much thought, he made an absurd promise to her. He even put a bit of emphasis on it. Elijah gazed at her with more sincerity and attentiveness.
Her courage and boldness were truly admirable!
Privately, he felt that giving her a chance was something he should do. It could even be considered necessary! However, he didn't know that his offer would mark the start of their lives being entangled forever.
Carolien's eyes lit up. Staring at the extraordinarily handsome face in front of her, she gripped the card tightly. She was barely able to stop herself from exploding with excitement. "Okay! I'll update you later."
That was exactly what she wanted the most!
With that offer from Elijah, she was certain that Alistair would be able to live a good life in the future even if she was no longer around.
She had to get that contract no matter what.
Carolien's heart was surging. Despite that, she did not expect that from that moment on, her fate had already begun to change. Sometimes, when something was set into motion, you couldn't just stop it whenever you liked.
Elijah slowly withdrew his hand, and Carolien did not hesitate to turn away. While watching her slender back figure gradually disappear, he absently gazed at his fingertips that were slightly curled. There seemed to be an indescribable peculiarity to them.
When he came to himself, something occurred to him. He picked up his phone and called Hudson.
When she returned to her room that day, the first thing Carolien did was pack up her luggage before taking a comfortable bath. Finally, she climbed onto the bed and fell asleep.
The next morning, she immediately contacted Hudson on her phone after waking up. After making plans to meet him, she went to check out. Although she had only stayed for two days, it had cost enough for her to want to faint.
When Hudson saw her, she happened to be carrying lots of bags of various sizes. It almost seemed like she was running away, which made the shock and astonishment in his gaze double.
Since Hudson was there, Carolien could follow him in and out of the hotel even after checking out. It was obvious that Elijah had probably let him know in advance. Hudson was an important figure who was one of Elijah's top subordinates and one of his two special assistants. He was very respectful to her.
Hudson led her into the room and made her a cup of coffee. Then, he took out a file of documents and briefly explained the contract to her.
Since Elijah wanted him to formally hand over the task to her, Hudson didn't have any expectations despite his confusion. Nevertheless, he cut to the chase.
"That's a rough explanation of what's going on with the contract, Miss Jones. Mr. Park is bad-tempered and not an easy man to negotiate with. I have contacted his assistant and secretary several times, but we have not reached an agreement. We coincidentally happened to have a formal discussion with him yesterday..."
Incredibly so.
Hudson instantly saw her in a new light. "Okay. I'll send you off, then."
"Thank you."
She wouldn't be able to leave if he didn't send her off, anyway.
Her Korean was very fluent. It wasn't her first time in Korea, so she had made preparations before coming. Thus, Carolien decided to take the subway. After all, she was a girl, so it would be safer. She also chose to stay in a chain-branded hotel. Although it would cost her nearly a thousand dollars a day, after staying in that ridiculously expensive five-star hotel, she already found it so cheap that she wanted to cry.
In the hotel, she carefully studied Hudson's contract, as well as some resources she had found. She also began to search for information regarding SOY Starshine. After a day of studying, she wrote down a lot of useful topics.
Mr. Park had an unstable temperament and was hard to get along with. On top of that, he was an important figure. It would be impossible for someone like her, who had no relation to him and was pretty much insignificant, to meet with him.
If she couldn't even meet him, how was she going to convince him? She had to make him sign the contract, though.
He had no shortage of pretty ladies around him. From the looks of it, the rumors might be true. He was a lecherous man, who was like a pest that couldn't be exterminated. If she were to approach him directly and something unexpected occurred, she feared that even the heavens wouldn't be able to save her. The dark scandals of the industry would no longer be a secret to her.
What should she do?
All kinds of thoughts flew through her mind. Carolien paced back and forth anxiously in the room. She couldn't risk her life. More importantly, even if she risked her life, she might not necessarily get him to sign the contract.
She didn't want to die before seeing the fruit of her efforts. If something happened, such as someone taking a scandalous picture of her, her life would be over.
That wouldn't do. She couldn't afford to die like that.
Biting her nails, Carolien flipped through the documents again. "If I can't meet him and deal with him directly, then..."
With a flash of inspiration, her gaze landed on paparazzi-taken pictures of a half-bald middle-aged man. He had a cold expression on his face and was having affairs with all kinds of beautiful women. Suddenly, an idea came to her mind.
She would just have to go the hard route.
Everyone had their own weakness, didn't they?
All she had to do was take the long way around.
